How can this affect them and is it really bad for them?

Not sure, but from my experience it doesn't do them a lot of good. My RST ones were really nice when I bought them, but frequent occasions where i've been caught in the pissing rain and got soaked has left them slightly harder and less supple after 2years.

It's a combination of them getting wet, then being put near the radiator to dry and me not putting some kind of leather wax/moisturiser on them to keep them soft though I'd suspect.

Use leather food after rain. Stops it from cracking when it dries.

Spearmint Rhino? Laughing

Almost any shop that sells leathers will sell things to look after them.

The thing is let them dry slowly. Dont put them in front of a fire as the sudden drying is the thing that makes them crack.

Rain doesn't do any damage to leather otherwise cows would have unbrellas. Wink

If you wear them 'till they are dry, you have no problems, also makes them fit better as they mould to your body.

I tend to stick a £10 cotton traders waterproof thing over my leather jacket when it starts to rain.

Keeps the majority of the water off the jacket - and makes me more visible at the same time!

If its bucketing it down, or looks like it will bucket it down, I wear my textile jacket.
