What does the hi and low switch do on the left handlebar usually? Mine does nothing when I flick it and on the right is 'off middle (dipped I assume?) and on' which controls the main beam.

I don't care so long as it passes the mot, can I just leave it? I've got seperately mounted fog lights either side of the main beam on a seperate switch I had to make.

is high and low on the left handlebar for the fogs?

With the right hand switch all the way to the left... (on)

the left hand switch is
low = low beam,
high = high beam Razz a blue light should come on with it on the dash...

If your high beam is seperate (the fogs) then it needs a blue warning light to come on when you use it...

If your lights aren't working it could be the switch gear is playing up/gotten dirt or corrosion in it, or another brake in the connection, if the bluedash light comes on with the high beam then your bulb probably needs changeing.

What does that barrel do in between the handles? looks like you put a key in it for something ? Embarassed

only kidding, Razz If high beam means fogs i should be alright hooking that up to the seperate fogs i've fitted then? I don't think theirs any fogs inside the main beam Shocked

To be honest i'm not sure you can use them as a replacement...

But the high beam or fogs both need a blue warning light, some aftermarket lights have a blue light on the back (so no dash is no problem)

But just to clarify

Fogs - designed for wide spread light in fogy conditions, not standard to 99% of bikes, but still need to have the blue light come on when used. what i did with mine is make it so they would only come on with the high beam, blue light is sorted and it passed through the mot without any mention whatsoever.

High beam - all bikes should have it, the main headlight has 2 elements, one of them directs light straight forward and is brighter (higher wattage used), warning light is needed again.

Might Rolling Eyes have been a mistake, I would start with a complete bike with a USERS MANUAL. Wink

i've already finished 98% of it by myself including hot wiring it (no keys).

what's the problem I don't understand the attitude. It's a simple question, does this switch control the fogs or does it control the main beam.

It's a 25 year old bike, IDEAL to learn on as a first bike.
