If your filtering through heavy traffic and you unintentionally hit a wing mirror and it breaks off (I know they normally just bounce back in place, but humour me here...), would you stop or carry on going???

I hit a wing mirror a couple of months back, I *think* I broke it - but it may have just bent back. I hit it with my mirror which needed no adjustment after the incident.

Traffic was moving and it wasn't safe for me to stop - the driver was obviously angered. It was also raining.

I didn't stop - I nailed it and switched lanes.

Can you get 'done' for not stopping though?

Dunno, I've thought about this... I would say yes though, legally.

But if I didn't see it, it didn't happen. Wink

I've stopped if safe to do so a couple of times, and generally the driver has been good about it (only clipped them, not smashed them off). Mind you I did hit a transit van wing mirror once, looked over my shoulder to see three massive skinheads sitting in it. I thought 'Sod that' and scarpered pronto...

As we discussed......but for the benefit of the forum, no i wouldn't because for me to have hit them it would have meant that they were doing something stupid - either over the white lines on the road or not driving in a straight line, probably as a result of them using their mobile phone or eating or whatever.

Secondly I would be travelling at a speed that would mean that when they have got over the shock they'd look for the cause and I'd be 50/60 feet down the road (assuming my speed was 12-15mph) and then they'd need to look at my registration and I'd be a further 15 feet dowm the road.

Thirdly, it is highly unlikely to happen as when my wing mirror its another wing mirror, it usually bends back resulting in no damage to either wing mirror.
