Have recently bought a Suzuki GSX600F to ride when I passed my DAS, having been riding an NSR125F for the last 12 months (when I wasn't fixing it). Unfortunately this all went rather tits up when I failed my test (lack of rear observations at right hand junctions).
So I now have my new bike sat in the back garden for another 3 weeks while I wait for my retest.

So now my question, is there any maintenance/servicing that I can be doing while I wait (impatiently)? Does anyone have any advice/comments on the bike?

Take the fairings off and clean them and the engine and stuff up. The downpipes are probably going plenty furry underneath there and the engine is probably filthy. Clean/ change the air filter, change the plugs, change oil and filter, clean fuel filters or put one in. Clean all the electrical connections you can get to.

All just general fettling to get the bike into top notch condition and to stop you getting quite so bored. It probably doesn't need half of that stuff done to it, but it can't hurt. Smile

will probably just change oil and filters (possibly plugs) and give it a good clean.
It is just so bloody frustrating having the bike there but not being able to ride it.

Wouldn't touch it, all I would do is start it evey other day and let it run for a few min's, enough to get the oil warm, it will help to keep the battery charged. I presume it had a servive before you got it, so another is a waste of time and money. Spark plugs are usually changed every xxxxmiles (12000 on my bike), so unless they are due for new ones of you have a problem I wouldn't mess.

Do make sure it gets properly hot if you are running it however, you don't want the oil to turn to mayonaise from condensation in the exhaust. Mayonaisse oil = knackered clutch and possibly gearbox.

Thanks for the advice, think I will just tackle the basics, oil and filters, then pray that I pass my test on the 16th or I will go mental if I have to wait any longer.

Mayonnaise is a bastard.

You change the oil to get rid of it, but of course its sitting on the little ledges and bits on the inside of your crankcases, so the only real way to get rid of it is to take the engine apart and wipe it all off, or have lots of long hot rides and gradually burn it all off.

My SV had some when I got. Every ride I wipe a little less off from under the filler cap. Makes you paranoid about checking your oil and water levels too, in case its a head gasket.

They don't drop though. Pretty sure its not the gasket, no oil sitting in the water and the mayonnaise amount is going down.

Fucking mayonnaise.
