Fitted new 40/45w Bosch headlight bulbs to replace the 25w standard bulbs during the week. Only, twice already this week, my battery has been totally dead when tryin to start. Spoke to Honda, and they claim its pointless changing the battery or tying a different type because its only 7 months old, and ive only had this problems since I changed the bulbs.

Anyone had the same problem?

It sounds as if the bulbs are flattening the battery... If you want to keep the higher power ones invest £25 in a battery charger, fit a quick release clip to the battery and hide the lead under the fairing, then when you park it up overnight plug the charger lead into this and let it top the battery back up. They come with very long leads if you don't have a garage and it also has the added effect that thieves think you've got the bike wired up to some sort of alarm system.

Good idea Korn, but I think I have a better solution.

A bloke over the road's got an R1, and when I first got my NSR it had a flat battery so I charged it for a bit, he came over and we tried to get the bike started. Sure enough it fired up, but the alarm wouldn't arm. He didn't realise that a 125 would have a Meta alarm on as standard (well I think it's standard anyway, anyone else got one on their NSR???), then he said ahhh it'll be the alarm that's drained the battery, and went on to tell me about something called an Optimate.

He has one and basically, it clips onto your battery, and that's it. It tops up your battery when it needs it. He doesn't use his bike over winter, and the first time he goes out on it in spring the bike fires up fine, even with the alarm being on for 5 months.

I think he said they're about £25, available from https://www.busters-accessories.co.uk or any other decent bike place.

Cheers.

I don't think that alarms are standard on the NSR...

there not when i bought my nsr i paid £400 for the topp of the range data toll (suposibly the best alarm/imobiliser on the market) it drained my battery over the winter months as i wasnt using the bike and my battery was phuked so ive got an optimate charger now ready for next winter.

first of all i thought £400 was exsecive but its insurance approved and has all ready save me around £200 on my yearly insurance so its paying for its self.

1 investment i would defenatly garanty guys Very Happy

Bought an Optimate-3, for £40. Turns out I don't have a fault with my battery at all cause the charger does a diagnostic on the battery. Just seems that the new bulbs are draining my battery before it can be charged up when running (seemingly a bit of a curse for having brighter lights).

I've wired up the Optimate so I don't have to remove the seat anymore - i just pull the plug - hidden from underneath the fairing and plug into the unit when I have the bike garaged.

Hopefully will sort things out. Might have thought twice of changing the bulbs if I new i'd have this much trouble.
