Visor Insert Question

I am wanting a black visor insert for my AGV K2 helmet and was wondering if anyone has any experience of these inserts and do they work and are they easy to fit/remove ?

Unless dealers are prepared to risk a big fine and destruction of their stock, selling inserts is currently illegal due to the Visionary/Motrax case in the middle of last year.

The reason for their ban was well justified as they do not meet the requirements of even a black visor.

IME they were a bit crappy anyway. Hassle to fit, remove etc, and the sticky mounting tape wears out quickly. Get a proper dark visor

im never going to use a visor insert again. big group of us went for a ride to cat n fiddle and then to matlock on easter sunday, flying down a soaked dual carriageway, me visor insert dropped out and blew into me face stabbing me in the eye in the process, causing me to nearly crash into the crash barrier.

Im guessing this is just for coloured inserts? i.e not fogcity and the like? I couldnt live without my fogcity insert in the winter, its a lifesaver!

i have 2 visor inserts, 1 for my hjc helmet and 1 my my takachi helmet.

It fits nicely in my HJC helmet but didnt fit nice at all in my Takachi helmet, i kept getting gigantic ripples in it whenever i close the visor.

In the end i gave up and now have a proper iridium visor!

I've been using a black Oxford insert (£4.99) for a while now, actually bought a new one in a bike shop a couple of days ago. My visor has a pinlock system which holds a small plastic insert in place as a sort of anti-fog barrier. I've just trimmed the black insert down and cut notches into it so that it fits into the pinlock system behind the clear piece. I really rate the insert as I can take it on or off over the course of a day if need be without the hassle of carrying a spare visor (I refuse to wear a bumbag to carry one in!). I may be wrong but I also am under the impression that it is legal to wear an insert, whereas a dark visor carries a (very low) risk of a telling off.

all of the oxford visor inserts or ones you can buy in shops will be legal whatevery the colour.

Most of the proper visors are not road legal because they do not allow a certain amount of light through.

I have two of the Oxford visor inserts, one in Green to match my jacket, and one in red to match my helmet. I switch them occasionally for a change, but dont wear them 24/7. The advantage of an insert (apart from the obvious price difference), is that you can remove them in about 5 seconds. My theory is that if you are ever stopped because of this visor insert, you can simply remove the thing. I dont know of anyone around here that has been stopped because of a visor insert, nor have i ever had any trouble with it.
The main disadvantage about them is that the universal ones (oxford), will not fit 100%, you have to faff about with them and trim them and it does get pretty irritating! I also found that there would also be a gap either at the top, or the bottom of the visor, as the insert was not quite the right hieght for my visor

But to round off... for £2 at the BMF Show, i wasnt going to complain. It made me realise that paying for a tinted visor was not realy what i wanted, i didnt make enough use of the inserts on a day to day basis to be able to justify paying for a tinted visor... so i simply plop my allready trimmed inserts in when i go off for a ride on a sunny day (Very rare at the moment), and leave the fully tinted / irridium visors for the other riders, the ones with a bit more cash

I don't see them being sold at any retailers now, but i still use my oxford one. I chose the silver insert and have been using it for a year, more or less. Obviously i remove it when weather conditions permit and find it easy to use. I think this is because Oxford were HJC's importers and therefore developed a product to suit it's helmets. I now tape the opposite sides onto my visor using sellotape and it normally works. Dont wash it in soap as the translucent layer dissolves away leaving you with VERY bad patches which are opaque.

The one i am using which i am tryign to get more of as there bloody good is easy to fit and take out. I have had mine in for a few months now and have had no trouble with it.
