Words can't even explain how upset, devastated, annoyed, angry, destraught and heartbroken I am right now.

I just had an accident on a dual carriageway. Was following a bike ahead of me, going probably about 70 I don't even remember. He then broke extremely suddenly and went straight into the back of him. I can't even begin to imagine how I stayed on. I went into the back of his fast, my front wheel did a MAJOR wobbly at about 70, and I somehow regained balance. Neither of us were injured, apart from my balls smacking against the tank.

I now need some advice, I imagine this was my fault, even though we were both going over the limit. What do I need to do now? I got his details, he has mine.

Can anyone help me with my bike? It is a ZXR 400 1999 L9 model, the front fairing is completely smashed up, as are the lights, front mudguard and I will have to replace the front side fairings as they are attatched to the front. Is there anyway of replacing these in the same colour/scheme?

Crying or Very sad

Unlucky mate, you are to blame in the eyes of the law/insurance. He will claim from your insurance for damages to his bike. That means a higher premium for you next renewal as you have an at fault accident on your record Neutral

For parts try ebay. Anyway, chin up mate, these things happen Thumbs Up

Hi,

sorry about that, as you ran in the back of him its is pretty much your mistake. Talk to the guy about settling outside of the insurance, but make sure its a full and final settlement if you do, this may save you pain on next years insurance.

NEVER repeat NEVER ride directly behind another bike, ride staggered so if the leader outbrakes you , you will overshoot without hitting them , i guess you know this already now .
glad to hear no-one hurt

Oh well. Lesson learned I presume, leave a bigger gap in future.

At least you are uninjured yourself.

Guess you have now found some scuffs to stick those AGV stickers over then? Wink 'Kiss of death' award goes to Bendy Laughing

You don't have to replace the sides unless they are damaged? They unbolt from the front (well they do on mine!)

A front fairing for a zxr400L is hard to get. A good condition one that matches your paint scheme will be even harder. I'll get in contact with my zxr buddies and see what I can find. Thumbs Up

How bad is your front tho? Not repairable? Sad

Sorry to hear that Ben. Shame you don't have an H model mate, 'cos I've got a full set of front fairings sitting in the garage!! Sad

An out of insurance settlement may avoid the premium hike next year, but at what cost? As we all know, bike parts ain't exactly cheap... Rolling Eyes

Hopefully the damage wasn't that bad to his...

On the the upside you wont have to sort out all the insurance details and all that stuff. When you get a letter from his company ring yours and tell them what happened, then you can forget about it.

Having something happen very similar to me and I was feeling crap cos I knew it was on my head but it was alot less stress than when it wasn't my fault.

Be sure to see what he says about you paying to fix the damage first, maybe even tell him the reason first, and let hime no that his insurers will also not have to know about it!

Seems like an Idea to me anyway, because remember the insurance can restrict your progress ontop a bigger bike!

I did hardly any damage to his bike. He was a courier and I hit his back box thing. So I think I will offer to pay for the damage myself.

Thanks for the help, and I would appreciate if anyone finds anything to help me (ie the front section of the ZXR L model...) looked on ebay and found nothing Sad

Forks and frame seem fine, but I cant full lock to the right, in fact it stops quite early as the cracked front fairing has pulled the speedo downwards hence restricting the turning circle to the right. This can easily be bent back into place obviously, just need the front section which is Lights and the front fairing section (sides are fine thank god!)

Thanks again guys and girls, its good to have people listening and supporting you at times like this...

Ben

I've got 2 contacts who I will phone for you tomorrow. Will let you know asap. Thumbs Up

So let me get it right, Front fairing and headlight.

Do you need the fairing brace as these usually get bent in a crash?
Clocks?
Screen?
etc...

Sorry to hear that - close shave by the sounds of it - like most have said - at least no-one was hurt and you will probably learn from your mistake.

Hope you get your bike sorted okay! Thumbs Up

Thanks guys...

ZXR400er, the screen is fine, as are the clocks.

The clock frams has been pulled down a bit as the front fairing snapped, but I am sure I could bend it back. My main concern is the front fairing section which includes the air intake holes. It is just a front bit which attatches to the side.

Appreciate you looking into to this for me mate Thumbs Up

Sorry to here about your little crash m8 hope you are ok.

For your bits it looks like the forum buddies are trying to sort it for you. If they struggle leave you details with partfinder.com

They charge you about £2.00 for the call but contact over 300 bike breakers nationwide. When I crashed my zx6r they found me loads of bits within 2 days. All you need to do is pick the cheapest Laughing

Also eBay is a life saver. There are also some good links on the workshop section.

Back to the bike I would strip it down and check your forks and frame first, because if their broken you will be wasting your money on fairings.
