A cbr and zxr cn be equally unrelyable if they are mistreated.. how well its been looked after will give a better indication of how long it will stay problem free...

I.e. if the seller claims it wheelies at 80 in first gear.. then they are either lieing or they have been raging the absoloute shat out of it and have no mechanical sympathy...

Between the two i dunno, depends on what your planing useing it for over what distances and what roads!

Beware of bargain bikes and ex-race bikes, a mate picked up a zxr400 for £1500, its on its second engine since last year as the first was an exrace engine and had been quite hard done to... think its cost him £700 more up to now.

Redline on the zxr is 14500, power starts around 8k and dies off after 13.

If you get one for that money it will be a shonker. Try to save more would be my suggestion.

They both have the same sort of redline and the same sort of power, go on height. If you are tall, go for the ZXR. If you are short (less than 5 foot 6) then go for the CBR.

I dont mean to put you off, but £1200 will probably not get you a too high quality one. Some nice examples can be found for £1600 £1800. If you get one for £1000 it may turn out to be a bit of moneypit.

You say you dont know which model, post a picture.

If it has two round headlamps and a boxy tail unit = H model
If it has one headlight model or looks like this its an L

The CBR and the ZXR will be restricted in the same way using washers in the inlet. these are specialised kits and will cost around £150.

IMO the ZXR is the one to have but then i am biased!

Not all bike that are cheap are a pile of crap. I only payed £275 for my ZXR H1. It came in a box and alot of work was needed but it is reliable as hell.

If possible go and have a ride on both bikes as no one can make the desicion for you. What i say is great you might think to be a pile of bollocks!

Everyones taste is different

Get the zxr! Not just because I've got one, and not just because mine's red (can you sense some bias here?!) but because zxr's are better!

So ner!
