Cheap and cheerfull cleaning...

[Method]

Set to give my bike a goooood clean tomorow afternoon if the weather holds up... the problem is i want to get my rims nice and white. They are a bit scratched and pitted to say the least and as such have got realy nasty, stuck on oily, gungry crap that i cant get off with normal soapy water / brush / wd40 etc....

Does anyone have any ideas that would help me get my whiteness back? But please bare in mind, im a student, i have no money to buy products... so home remedies anyone?

I know you said you're looking for home remedies, but I find GT85 is fantastic for removing the stuck on oil and crap which is flung all over the place off the chain and what not. I use loads of the stuff for cleaning my bike, removes pretty much all oil marks from wherever. Just spray some on a small rag and wipe the oil clean off.

Cheap stuff too, about £3 for a big can.

Try vinegar and then try that with sugar. My wheels are exactly the same. I cleaned them twice and within a week they were black again hence I am after cheap grey wheels

Diesel - brush on, wipe off with rag, works well on greasy wheels etc.

I just use white spirit. Does the trick.

Get some parrafin, or if you can't find it, parasene from B&Q et al. 5 Litres for a fiver and lasts forever.

warm soapy water and polish normaly, old tooth-brush for small fiddly bits.

Method.. sounds like a plan mate.

Weather is meant to be nice tomorrow and i have been doin to much riding and not enough cleaning.

I have got purple metal dust caps (I try not to draw attention to the colour) and everyone asks why the back one is black.

I am embarraced as to how dirty she is.

I have to blur and pictures i take of my bike, to try and hide the black spots on my wheels They are dreadfull, ah well, looks like fantastic weather!
