Sidi Black Rain - very comfy, very waterproof and will protect you in a spill. You should be able to get them for £100.

I know this doesnt help now, but january sales are an excelent time to buy gear like that. My boots (keep forgetting what they are) were reduced from £140 to £90. Cant complain at that. My jacket was reduced from £200 to £150 aswell

I have a pair of Sidi vertebra for sale on ebay size 8!

I currently have a pair of Sidi vertigo corsa's that I got for £170 at the scottish bike show this year. Very sports, very comfortable and great performance so far. They have carbon everywhere and strong protectors aswell as adjustment for the calves and feet!

I found a pair of boots in the back of T.W.O last week, called 'Swift Superbike Boot'. They are £89.99 and look the part. They are 100% waterproof, they say as worn by Steve Pleter (BSB rider) and the black looks very nice, they also still have the toe sliders and sporty plasticy bits!

Get Sidi Vertigos (not the Corsas). They're a bargain at around £130 off ebay.

Comfortable on the bike, and off... trust me!

£109 for Alpinestars GP3. Anyone recommend these, I've been pricing a few up and these seem good VFM.

I've also discovered it's best to try them first, as sizes don't always match. A pair of size 12 Teknic boots I tried were too small, but the same size GP3 were a perfect fit. I've had the same with jackets too.

There's the Tailend BMF show in September which is reputed to be very good for kit as it's at the end of the summer season and they're trying to shift a lot of stock.

I had an off in a pair of Alpinestars SMX boots a couple of years ago. The boot only had a minor impact and a bit of a slide but it was enough to split the stitching along the inside ball of the foot/big toe and tore the velcro fastening over the zip away from the boot.

Fair enough that I didn't get any injuries to my feet, but as I said it was minor, in fact don't actually remember how my feet could have been touched. It was enough for me to not buy another pair of Alpinestars even though I'd always bought them in the past. I did in fact have issues with a previous pair of SMX's coming unstiched along the velcro fastening and these were the replacement/swapped out pair. I previously had the GP version and they too tore along the velcro, thought it was a one off at the time.

I now use Daytona boots and they were a real revelation after the A*'s, not cheap though and my feet are comfy for once.

I bought my boots on eBay for £23. Stylmartin they look the part with toe sliders and what not and they are about 95% waterproof. Don't know much about thier protection but I've seen road racer Adrian Archebald wear an identical pair so I reckon they must be alright.

I got my Alpinestars GPS3 boots from J&S accessories at Watford for 99 quid, they're waterproof, very warm in winter and cool in summer. Hasn't let a drop of water through when riding in the rain and they are thoroughly recommended. I think that it's a RiDE recommended product as well. They also look the part with the injection moulded alpinestars logo on the shin guards, toe sliders and a supportive PU heelplate.

Try and get a pair of last years (i reckon they look better) sidi vertebra ive seen loads of shops trying to shift stock at around 90 to £100 per pair. Especially good if youve got narrow feet
