I have a cat-c damaged bike and now I want to change it for a different one. The bike has a few scratches, bumps and cracks in the fairing, nothing major. Just have a few questions about selling it:

would a dealer take my bike in p/x?

if so how much would they take off for it?

should I tell them it's cat-c? I'm guessing it's on a register somewhere so they'll find out sooner or later.

am I better off selling it privatley? just that it's easier to haggle a dealer if you're doing a p/x.

BTW it's an NSR and I've talked to a few dealers and they're really interested as it's a sought after bike, but I didn't tell them it was cat-c.

A HPI check will tell the buyer that it is a cat C.

Do they know it's damaged? I'm sure any dealer will ask you if it has been subject to an insurance claim, and I can't imagine a dealer not doing an HPI check on a PX especially something nickable like an NSR. Let them do the checking, but be honest when they ask you about it. Thumbs Up

Doesnt the 'ask me no questions I'll tell you no lies' clause come into this? I think that by law you dont HAVE to tell anyone unless they specifically ask, if they ask and you lie then thats deception surely.

Any dealer worth his salt will either have his own HPI system or one just a phone call away. My GF works for a finance brokers and she does the HPI checks for most of the garages round where I live, they just phone up and ask and she does them. She also does them for me for free too!!

If the bike was a write off when you bought it then you could act ignorant and claim you never knew, but when you get your new bike from the PX make sure that you take it elsewhere to get repaired cos that dealer will be pissed when he finds out!!
