hey all,

I am getting better at this.

I am a man on a mission and armed with a multimeter, a good amoutn of insulation tape, umm a nail file, wd40 and other such knick knacks to tackle the 2 cyclinders not firing issue some of you might remember.
Tomorrow I take it out and clean all connectors to try and get this fixed.. If not its off to the garage and more $ for me Shocked

the stupid question for toda is this. In the attached electric diagram, the fat red wire from the regulator just goes straight and stops nowwhere. Please refer to diagram. can someone explain this.
And i saw that the red wire was actually unconnected also when i opened up the side cover. Wasnt sure if it was a loose contact or not.

can someone please explain that?

From the diagram (not easy to be 100% sure) it does indeed look like it goes nowhere...

Thing is manufacturers will use a wiring loom for several models of the same bike sometimes, or even between 2/3 models... the result is wires that mysteriously go nowhere... costs less to mass produce, even if they are not useing 2/3 wires 30% of the time...

Can you get a higher res selection of it?

But I thought this was the main wire from the rectifier/regulator? (the red one??)

I dont think the forum allows larger sized attachments.

slightly higher quality pic attached.

But if you save it and open it with paint or some such program it gives decent clarity. I cross checked. I would be grateful if you would be willing to do that to have a look see.
thanks

Is yours an RJ? (whatever that denotes)

This
https://www.xj-forum.de/schaltplaene/xj650_maxim/wiring_diagram.pdf

Apparently it covers... XJ 650 G/H/J/K

Shows the connecting to the main fuse and the ignition (see what i mean more than one use of the loom)

Bit inconclusive at the mo Razz you'll have to check its 100% defenately the right diagram you have...

ya its an RJ

and the second confusing part is that the first owner did some rewqiring that I have no clue about and the ignition switch has ben bypassed. So i am not really sure if its a reduntant wire or something that came loose.
Guess i will poke around and see

thanks
