Ok, so when I binned the XJ I dented both sides of the tank.

Got a new tank, and sidepanels, and rear light unit for £10.

Only problem was, the tank had the petrol cap still on it, so my dad and I set about drilling out / hacking it to pieces.

Once all the plastic came off from the top, the remains of the petrol cap fell inside the tank.

Now if anyone's got any bright ideas of how to get it out, it'd be much appreciated! There are two pins which are stopping us getting it out.

Why don't petrol tanks have service hatches!

Hmmm. Tricky one can't think of anything sensible so how about something stupid and probably far too expensive.

By one of those 'aircraft' filler caps, the ones that are held on with about 20 allen bolts all the way round. You usually need to cut a bigger hole in the tank to fit one of these. Cut the hole, remove the bit and fit trick new filler cap. Thumbs Up

This kind of thing

You think that'd work, fitting one of those kind afterwards? I'd much prefer one of those!

Hmm.

Well, I saw them fitting one on the telly one time. I think it was on Men and Motors. They just enlarged the standard hole by drilling in a circle then bolted it in place. A jigsaw with a metal-cutting blade would probably be better.

It is not a job I have actually done myself and I am unsure where you would get one. A Ned car shop would probably be the best bet I would think.
