I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong category, but I'm so excited about my bike I just wanted people to know! I'm sure all you seasoned bikers will know exactly how I feel as a new biker. Embarassed

Here's a couple of photo's of my very first bike. It's a Kawasaki GPX 250. Although it's an old(ish) bike, it's in pristine condition, both bodywork and engine wise.

I'm a newcomer to biking so please bear with me. And to all you real 'Big Bikers', please don't laugh at my pride and joy. I'm only a small bloke, so anything bigger than this is almost impossible for me to hold up!

I can't ride it legally yet, because I haven't passed my Practical Test. That takes place on Tuesday 07/06/05 and I'm hoping I'll pass the test.

Can't wait to ride my Pride & Joy and join the biking community.

Wish me luck next Tuesday.

Thank you for your compliment about my bike. And thank you also for welcoming me to the forum.

It's a 1988 ('F' reg) GPX 250 with about 28K on the clock. As you can see from the photo's it's been extremely well looked after and the engine sounds like new.

I'm very proud to own the machine and can't wait to ride it 'for real'. From the brief experience I've had, the bike just want's to 'go'. Once it reaches about 55-60mph there seems to be a power band that just want's to open up further, and the bike becomes so lively. It's just so enjoyable to ride.

So I'm told - ahem!!!

wow Shocked hasn't been used much then! Only thing you need to do to get it looking absolutely mint is to get the downpipes changed! although most bikes seem to have rusty downpipes

Yes, I agree. The downpipes are just a little bit rusty and could do with changing.

But hey! This is an old bike ya' know. And let's face it, who can see the downpipes without looking into the front fairings or bellypan?

I take your meaning, though. Any ideas where I can get brand spanking new ones from, rather than second-hand salvaged ones?

Personally I have no idea, but I have no doubt someone else here will!
The bike looks beautifully looked after though, the downpipes are certainly not due to a lack of looking after as you said, it's just always nice to have it all shiny Very Happy

(you're probably best off just leaving it though, I'm a bit of a perfectionist!)

Ripper of a bike mate. Have one myself and have only been riding for about 6 weeks or so. You weren't kidding about being pristine. Looks near brand new. Maybe keep an eye on the seller if they get a bigger bike then you can get that off them too when ya ready . At least you'd know what sort of condition it would be in.
Thing that shits me though is down here in Australia they don't come with a centre stand. Would be nifty to do the chain. Oh well ya get that. Enjoy

Personally, I'd just give them a coat of exhaust paint (or hi-temp BBQ paint) - worry about replacing them when they're actually starting to disintegrate. Thumbs Up

Oil changes is the one thing i would say are important on a 36bhp 14000rpm 250cc twin. If your going to ride it hard which you will to get decent performance out of the motor, then id change the oil and filter with decent semi-synthetic stuff, about every 2000miles, and it should last a long time.
never ridden one, but they are sposed to go well for a 250cc 4stroke, 105-108mph sounds about right, and it should sound nice being a Kwak! Smile
