Last week my bike went bang.

The piston has now been replaced, along with some gaskets.

I was wondering if it need running in, and for how long?

Should i stay below certain revs?

It needs to be treated gently for a while, how long depends on wether it's got a plated bore or not.

For an ordinary iron liner I'd keep the revs down for a couple of hundred miles - have a look in your owners manual and see what it says for a new bike and follow that.

Yes it will need running in.

Do a search on running in procedures.

Yes a huge chunk came off of the piston, we fished out the pieces from the bottom end, skimmed the cylinder head and replaced the piston.

My bet is that it will go again very soon. What engine? Iron bore? Plated bore? Was anything else dameged?

I ran my NSR in for 300 miles before I took it over 5krpm after a rebuild.

The engine is the Minarelli AM6 (rs50 engine)

Its an iron bore (i think)

The cylinder head wasnt in the best condition, but it was just used again.

I took the bike up to 10k in 6th today, after about 50/60 miles of taking it easy, it seemed to be fine. I just been building up the revs.

The bike seemed to be dieing, as in when i was sitting in traffic, the revs were dropping to 1-1.5k, where it usually idles at 2k dead. After i had opened her up this was fine.

Also before the rebuild the bike wouldnt start at all on the electric (had to bump it). But now it will start ever time on the button.

To be on the safe side, I would run in the piston for about 300 miles. I did this on my 50. And you should NOT rag it everywhere, especially taking it to 10K rpm. Thats just asking for yet more trouble. Stick to about 6K rpm, and dont whack the throttle back, because you'll ruin the piston. It needs to be run in gently.
