Hi,
my RVF 400 got delivered today. i am well pleased . just a couple of questions,

How much should it idle at?

Should i always give it some choke? how much choke and when?

Do i always have to turn the fuel tap on and off?

I expect it should be idling at about 1300-1500rpm. If its idling a bit high then just adjust the idle screw on the carb. Easy peasy.

And no you shouldn't be turning the tap on and off, just leave it on, unless there is a good reason to turn it off eg. taking the tank off, leaving it standing for a few weeks etc.

As already mentioned, 1300rpm, +/- 1000rpm.

The idling speed is located beneath the choke on the left hand side.

Choke isn't always necessary, usually useful when starting first thing in the morning. When the bike is warmed up (a couple of mins with the choke fast idling the bike) and idles comfortably, you can switch it off and ready to ride.

Have fun, I've heard RVFs are very nice bikes, should be a nice summer....

if you leave the fuel tap pon all the time can't it flood the carb sometimes and makes starting the bike harder? i always turn mine off when get off the bike, only takes two seconds to do.
