I am *very* close to ordering my NSR, probably within the month.

It might sound stupid, but I have NO idea about changing gear. I know the back brake lever on my ped would be the clutch, but the rest I have no clue about. So could someone please walk me through gear changing.

Thanks muchly,

The Doddmaster

Take the cbt for a fuly geared motorbike mate, very hard to explain unless you have the bike infront of both of you. I would wait til the cbt

I'd do the CBT again too, i had no idea about changing gear when i first decided i wanted a bike but it's surprisingly easy to do.

Gears on a bike are 'sequential' like on a rally car. Cant go from 4-2 without going though 3rd. The order goes like this if you've got a 5 gear bike.
5
4
3
2
Neutral
1

When settin off pull your clutch in, nock it down so your in first, Then slowly release your clutch while adding revs. When your revs get a bit high, pull your clutch in and knock the gears up though neutral and into second.

Takes sometime to get used to when you've never used a clutch or gears before..I lost count the amount of times i stalled on my CBT. But when you get the hang of it, its just like riding a bike Razz

I used to worry about it, but when I got my NSR I had the basic idea of gears, ie. clutch in, knock it down, revs, etc, and took my NSR up the road as soon as I got it and took to it like a duck to water....pulling off the hardest part, and thats basic, once your moving you can just dump the clutch once you've changed gear, don't have to let it out slowly like when pulling off.

There is only one thing that is keeping me from gettin an NSR next payday. Thats that I would have to get rid of my ped :(

It is the one in my avatar, Italjet Dragster 50LC

Its really cool, for a 50 it pulls really well off the line. Accelerates well to about 40 then creeps to around 50 (partially derestricted)

The design of it really turns heads, which I like a lot :) Once I went to Mcdonalds, and saw a group of ppl crowding round my new ped staring at it and looking around it for ages. I was well chuffed. It also has Hub centre steering, and handles really well for a moped. In fact, the only down side is that the front suspension is nearly non-existent.

Ah well, I will miss her

Did you guys feel like this about your first bikes?

i love my SR50

if it did the speeds i require and could go anywhere i wouldnt change it

but its wicked, i dont know if i will part with it when i get my new bike, cos i will lose so much money, i might just keep it to use when the weather is shitty, and i dont want to get my new bike dirty

plus yeah its my first bike, and its always gonna have a special place, i was so upset when i scratched it first time

I had a Honda X8RX moped/scooter whatever you wanna call it. Not the fastest of mopeds (45mph) but it is the best looking moped available to the market. Looks especially good in Rossi paint, like his paddock bike Laughing but neway, I thought it was the bollocks, regretted selling it and was without it, or a bike for 2 months before I bought my NSR. No looking back whatsoever. Can't beat a proper bike. Trust me you will regret it at first but when you get your new bike you won't even remember what moped you had.

Sell it asap. PS.....when the weathers shitty you dont wanna be riding a moped around, buy a fucked up AR50 or CG125 or whatever for that, something bulletproof. Laughing

When i went from a 24hp NSR to a 65 GPz, i didn't cry. hang on, when i was still in 33bhp i did miss the powerband, but now i've got it back, all 65hp of it! :)
as for the CBT, i hadn't a clue until then but it all makes sence after.
clutch in, left toe down. clutch slowly out while adding revs. change gear again when clutch out (or when hitting redline :D ) by dropping throttle, pulling in clutch, knocking it up all the way, clutch out. you can do it smoothly if you have a feeble pillion, or you can do it fast. it doesn't matter unless you have the aforementioned scared passanger!

Hey! Don't worry about changing gear - it'll all come naturally once you're on the bike. It feels right to kick up the gears as the revs get higher, you don't even have to think about what gear you're in - just listen to the engine or failing that look at the rev counter. Just don't forget to kick down all the way to first when you stop! I forgot once and tried to pull of after weaving through heavy Wolvo traffic and stalled it much to my HUGE embarassment Embarassed (tried to pull off in third I think!)
