Hi,

my rvf is restricted to 33bhp. is it possible to put a new exhaust on it, say an ART, and for it still to be restricted?

thanks

normally the restrictions are in the carb but im not too sure about that...

im guessing that a race exhaust will only improve the bhp by 2 or 3 but im also not too sure about that!

If it does then it won't be that much of a problem insurance and police wise (other than it being not for road use! Razz )

Just take the restrictors out, both invalidate insurance.

You will ruin the fueling.

Bikes require re-jetting with an aftermarket can even in unrestricted form as a free'er flowing exhaust makes the bike run lean. This can cause severe engine wear as a lean mixture will make the bike will run hotter.

With restrictors in it would be even worse. Plus the delivery would be even worse.

Kickstart aka keith said it wouldn't really affect the bikes performance, just move it's 'powerband' or something to that sort. As said, race can is illegal on the road as is a powerful bike on a restricted license.

Ever hear that saying...."two wrong's make a right"? Thumbs Up Wink

It will make the performance worse.. when propperly set up it will give powergains mainly at the top of the powerband, which restricted you wont be able to get near (afaik)... ither way it wont help it go.

Apart from that.. why bother? appart from looking nice and sounding good theres no point surely?

Theres better made cans than art for less money, get a stock replacement, race cans will get you attention from the police, cost allot + potentially bugger up your bike if not set up propperly...

If you want to go faster do a rospa course Razz

So you can put a new exhaust on it, but it will just make a mess of the performance and require re-jetting etc etc etc. So theres not much point at all right?

As other people have mentioned - the exhaust is one of the most fundenmental parts of a two stroke engine, altering your exhaust means that you will have to retune the bike to the exhaust, though it may give you a bit of a boost 'out of the box'. I'm sure that a racing exhaust would not effect the hp of a retricted bike, but your just asking to be pulled if they can hear you coming a mile down the road. I got pulled today and he mentioned changing my exhaust, luckily he was a 'friendly' copper and just gave me the advise and no ticket.

My advise is maybe invest in something else other than a race can on a restriced bike.

Pretty much, (afaik) a race exhaust will allow more air to escape from the exhaust ports, so you can feed in more air and fuel, but it needs to be set up propperly to take advantage... and you'd only get advantage where your bike is restricted, so it would be allot of money for noise and a nice looking can...

Theres plenty of other way to make more power but it will make it over 33bhp, so you miht as well take out the restrictors if you were gonna do that...

Spend your money getting better at rideing, do a trackday or two (heres allways people from here doing them maybe tag allong?), do some advanced rideing maybe, even on lardy touring bikes your going to have to be BLOODY good to get away from them... rospa is the the training for police motorcycle units + you'll be a safer rider for it.

If you ealy HAVE to spend some money get a double bubble screen and spend some money on the mono shock and progressive springs on the front, some good tyres too, then when the restrictors come out it will be even more of hoot...

Looks like youve only had it a short time, get used to it before you throw money at it, you might find its more then enough.

Just my 2p

Isnt that all a aftermarket race can is anyway? Noise and looks. You dont get much of a noticible power increase from a slip/bolt on endcan.

My girlfriend has a stinklingly loud race can on her restricted NC23, although it was fitted and setup when it was derestricted before she got it, so I cant comment if it make it worse or better in restricted form

I say go for it, the standard RVF can is like a sewing machine.
