As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with my bike mechanically its just the exhausts are blowng. The one on the opposite side of the bike in the picture has a slight split between the silencer and the downpipe. It is slightly loose due to the split but with a clamp in place. I have also temporarily repaired the split with Gun Gum repair bandage. The same exhaust is also blowing very slightly along the downpipe and there is some corrosion. The exhaust pictured is not split but is blowing very slightly along the lower part of the downpipe.

The bike does not make a terrible racket but is slightly noisey, a very slight rattle can also be heard at low speeds i.e turning into junctions in town.

I was planning on getting a new exhaust system but I just wanted to know will it require one to pass the MOT in September?

Cheers
Jack

In my experience it'll fail if they notice it, as did my car recently. If it's not too loud they may not bother checking and you could be OK, but the last time I took one of my bikes the tester put his hand over the end of the silencer to listen for leaks. You might get a better temporary seal for a split pipe with small metal plate, some gun gum and a clamp over the top.

You could try getting a bit of GunGum or what ever its called, exhaust paste basically. Make yourself a small, temporary gasket to get it through the MoT. Luckily motorcycles dont have an Emmisions test at the current point in time, so if you manage to patch the hole up with sealant, then you should be good to go! Just make sure it is sealed well, if the examiner sees the paste, then he will definately examine it, but as long as its sealed then it should be fine.

fill hole with gun gum, then cover with grease and dirt.

If I can't see it, it's not there.

Thumbs Up
