the head gasket went when i was going down the dual carriageway, cease the engine and nearly killed me. Anyway i replaced the head gasket, piston, cylinder and piston rings. It seemed it was going fine again.

But it keeps fouling the plug. Ive looked at everything I could think of, throttle cable, carb, exhaust....no luck. The power isnt kicking properly, at about 7000 rpm it just hits a ceiling and is very sluggish. its starting without choke, the mixture seems to be rich.

im a student and dont have the money to just pass it over to a high street mechanic. any ideas????

its a 1999 by the way

Hi

First thing I would check is that the choke is turning off properly (easy to check).

However, given the revs it is stopping at (presume it revs a bit higher in the low gears) I would say the most likely issue is the power valve, especially as you have needed to remove this from your old barrel and fit it to the new one.

For example, get the cables the wrong way round (cannot remember whether this is easy on the NSR) and you will have little low down power and it will not rev out.

Given how warm the weather is at the moment it could be starting fine without the choke anyway. That could just be something that is misleading you.

All the best

Keith
