Is it actually possible to save a high-side? They look way too unpredictable.

Cool vid. Thumbs Up

As for the highside, ask Sean_ off this forum about mine up the cat n fiddle, was a red hot day, tyres were scorching, i threw the bike into a corner slightly too fast and the back end just went without any warning, it felt like it slid a fair way, Sean guessed it was about 1.5 feet. It then gripped and the whole bike shook, i just held onto the bars and hoped it would sort itself out. Which it did, i then pulled over at the next available point to talk to Sean about it and wait for the others that wre following us.

It depends what you mean by 'save'.

A highside usually starts with a low side.

As the tyres slides it can retain grip again. If this is too sudden and the wheel is going at a significantly slower speed to the road speed of the bike then it can flip the bike up.

If you are in a situation where the rear starts to slide, the trick is to stay on the power. Cutting off the power will make it more likely to grip, but at a much slower speed than the bike is actually going.

If you stay on the power it will come back into line - in some cases it can actually be beficial to get on the power even more!

I have had a few mini-high sides where I have been thrown out of the seat; I ended up going down the start of the Senna straight at Snetterton sitting on the tank Confused.

I thought that high-sides were caused by too much power too soon out of a corner. Is this what causes the tyre to slip?

fuzz, I believe in general they are caused by too much power for a given lean angle.

Either way the tire cant provide the grip required and slides sideways.

You must have experienced this leaving a roundabout once or twice before? But on the track this is being caused with redhot tires and too much power going through them, so the rear tire slides sideways quickly and then regrips when the tire slows down, thus stopping the slide immediately- The result is a kick, and a highside if youre unlucky.

The initial slide can be caused by too much power - or just by leaning over too much, etc.

However this is basically a lowside - the bike is going down, it's what happens after this that can make it into a highside.

Unless you're on Wide Open Throttle, it's generally best to keep the power on anyway. Worst case you should low side it if it doesn't recover.
While worst case if you shut off the throttle is you're thrwon 15ft into the air Confused.

There is another one out there just like this one made by the same guy. I have it on my HD but don't know of a link anywhere out there.

The guy on the suzuki had a shitload of time to plan his landing. I was wincing all through that, never seen highsides as vicious as some of those. I'm not sure if its pure balls, stupidity or instinct but some of those crazy bastards just refuse to let go of the bike once it starts going!!! Fair play!

Can anyone confirm that was Jeremy McWilliams having his front brake jammed on by someone cutting back in at 1:11?
