I went past the Honda garage the other day and saw a big banner "Book your test ride now!!". Having read G's test ride review I thought i'd pop in and book something. They were just about to close so the guy took my details and said he'd call me back but you could tell he just didn't want me to have a go! He was looking at me funny and talking to me down his nose. How long have you had a license? Is it clean? What do you ride now? What have you ridden? Have you got a credit card to put a deposit down? He never did call back and I only asked to try out the cbr600rr. I was gonna ask for the blade but I think he would have shat himself on the spot if I'd have asked for that.

How much deposit do they want?? I've never had to put a deposit down before and i've test rode loads of bikes. You just bring passport and license usually.

ahh.. but you forget that Honda dealers are wankers!!!

i've been looking around this weekend.. and managed to get a blade and an SP2 out for a spin.. no deposit.. but the sales droid accompanied me on the ride, him leading on a VFR800..

but then went to the local Yam / Aprilia dealer to try the R1 an RSV out.. got back from the R1 test and he said "we're shutting now.. do you wanna take the RSV and bring it back tomorrow?"

oh go on then!!! Love It!

One of the local 'SuperBike' dealers tries to charge you £30 per test ride.. and they claim that its for their insurance.. Bollox! they just want to rip you for as much as they can get..

I shouldn't worry about that. I've just recently done the rounds at (car) dealers and many act like they're doing you a favour by being prepared to sell you anything. Needless to say that type didn't get any business.

As for deposit I don't think that'll be required for a test. I haven't heard of it before, although some bike dealers will only give you a test ride if you commit to buying it beforehand (Confused so no point in riding it then Rolling Eyes). Probably asking about a credit card to make sure you have an address and credit rating and aren't some chav chancer.

Again from the recent experience with (car) dealers you can pay to get the accident excess amount reduced from sky high to just affordable. It's usually only about £10 though, £30 sounds a bit much just for that.

this one is Fylde Superbikes in Blackpool.. the £30 is for the actual insurance.. not just to reduce the excess.. they still have a £1000 excess on the policy! but they say if you buy the bike they'll knock £15 off the price of the bike as a goodwill gesture!! goodwill my @r$e! You want me to pay to take a bike i'm looking at buying out! I'll go an buy it elsewhere!!
Problem is, there our only local Kwak dealer.. and I wanna try the 10R out.. gonna have to take a trip elsewhere to try it...

The biggest laugh I ever had was when I had a strange idea to try a big trailie. I went to the Honda garage and asked for a test ride on a Varadero (bearing in mind that my Blade was worth about 2k more). He said that they didn't give test rides, at all.

So, I'm supposed to buy a bike that I've never ridden?

I eventually convinced him to let me ride 'around the block'. I just never told him how big a block I was talking about Very Happy

So, I rode it home along my normal commute, did a few motorway miles and decided that I much preferred the Blade. He was waiting outside the shop when I got back and tried to tell me off for being too long.

I told him to be glad that my Blade wasn't nicked (they didn't check) and that I had come back at all, he didn't seem too amused by that Mr. Green

Cheers

Grim
