Just a quickie (it's probably been asked before, but I'm too wet to search!)

I have just got in from the wetest ride I have ever had (oo-er). It's still pissing it down and doesn't look like it's going to stop for the rest of the evening.

So my question is, is it better to leave the bike outside all night without it's cover on, or should I put the cover on to protect it from the continuing downpour? It's a waterproof cover with little flaps to make it breathable.

Cheers. Thumbs Up

If it is already wet covering it isn't going to stop it getting wet, so I would leave it uncovered and cover it once it has dried out.

Had the same convesation with claud when he came over to my house yesterday evening. It was pissing down and we were working on my bike in my garage, but his gullarm was left outside with the lower fairings missing. He agreed that leaving the bike in the rain gives it a good washing if you're lazy or have become complacent in cleaning. Putting a cover (unless it's breathable) will cause any water which has spilled in from underneath to evaporate and condense. I would suspect you'd find condensation in most places including breather pipes. Whenver i left my bike out in the rain, i just forget about it.

No, I asked because it's a breathable cover and surely that's the point in it being breathable - that you can put it on a wet bike?

Id give the easy parts of the bike a wipe then put the cover on?

Not sure. I have an air compressor and tend to blast the water off my bike with it - works bloody well.

Moot point now. It stopped raining a few minutes ago, so I dried it off with a towel and some kitchen roll, sprayed it all over with WD40 and put the cover on. Thumbs Up

Better remember to re-oil the chain tomorrow tho.

Yer I never cover mine anymore. I don't have one of those fancy breathable covers (not sure how well it'd work either), so just leave it uncovered all the time.

In most weathers (summer/winter whatever) if I put the cover on, in the morning I always find condensation which isn't good, so just leave it. Rain doesn't really harm it either.

Covers are good for not "showing off" you bike to thieves though. Wink

If you're gonna cover it up, probably best to air it out in the morning, I found that... Not good having a wet bike (even damp) under the cover, I'd rather have it soaking wet...

I cover mind with my old poncho.

its quite loose fitting and allows air to get in and the bike to dry.

Ive got to cover it if im stationary for long due to the pod filters.
