I thought that drugged up retard was the worst of all the acts at Live 8, he couldn't sing, didn't know the words or even what was going on by the looks of things! On the plus side you couldn't really hear him!

Radio 1 have spent most of the day slagging his performance off, so I wouldn't bother. Apparently everyone who performed at Live 8 has had massively increased record sales, except him, who's sales went down Razz

I didn't see much of Live 8, but as I had anticipated, was pretty pleased with the performances from Razorlight (minus his curious stripping antics) and Snow Patrol, Madonna wasn't bad either.

cant stand by and let my pete get another public kicking Crying or Very sad Massive fan of pete and have been since the early days of the libertines the media only shine on his drugs Rolling Eyes "f***ing junkie scumbag," musicians take drugs all the time i cant think of a musican who has had a profound impact on music that hasnt had a history of drugs(you might say bob geldof, but HIS music wasnt life channing, its what he did with others' music) the medias old tiresome play on the world shambles is nothin new and nothing original because of the band name babyshambles. people will say what they say about pete, the 5 foot framed poster i have of him shows my thoughts, if you let pete and his music in to your life it would be a better place for it.
now give my karma a good kickin' Smile

Funny, i've seen him on a stage 5 times so far and not once has he been able to get a song right.

He forgets a 3rd of the word's, mumbles another 3rd and spends the rest of his time trying desperatley to remember what the hell he's doing.

Very poor excuse for a musician.

I saw Doherty in Ayr last month when he was there for a burns festival - he never did one bloody bit of it and all the f***ing reprobates in the audience just cheered him on to sing his own stuff. To be honest first time I had ever seen or heard of him never knew he was on drugs and I left there thinking he was a bit pish. Wasn't until I bumped into a massive bambyshambles fan that I realised who the twat was and that he was on drugs. That lot are like a bloody cult always sticking up for their own Razz

Fair point, but you have failed to take account of the lifecycle involved. It kind of goes like this.

Stage 1
Muso starts taking drugs. They give him a heightened sense of himself and his talent, and often some of his best and most creative work is produced during this period. He is probably still just dabbling at this stage, and may be taking a selection rather than a "drug of choice".

Stage 2
"Drug of choice" starts to take hold. There will still be flashes of genius (if there was any there to start with) but as the addiction becomes stronger the muso starts to become less reliable, less interested and less capable of performing.

Stage 3
Muso usually disappears from view for some time. Work may be produced but it is often shambolic, incoherent and introspective. Live appearances are rare, and often embarrassing.

Stage 4
Death or rehab

Pete, in my view, is currently at stage 3. I suspect his stage 4 is likely to be the first option rather than the second. Shame.

i think the reason elton did the duet with pete was to try and show some support, eltons an ex coke head so maybe he can point pete in he right direction.

Or give him a better dealers telephone number?

Repect to the lad, he's somehow still in a band and sticking it to kate moss. Pity he was a superb song writer.

I dont think this slagging off of Pete is fair, if some of you actually botherd to read about him (NOT in tabloids) or watch the interview he did with that bird off newsnight you'll find out alot about him, personally i think he is one of THE best acts to come out of britain for a looong time, yes he may have a drug problem but if you look at the lengths he has gone to, to try and kick his habit e.g have an implant in his leg that stops the good feelings of crack and heroin. Personally i think he would have kicked the habit ages ago if his so called friends hadnt abonded him when he needed them the most. Carl, petes former best friend and bandmate threw him out of the libertines due to pete's drug taking while he was doing the same Mad , although Carl was doing it a little bit less. If carl had helped pete instead of effectively ripping his heart out, i think pete would have kicked his habbit ages ago, and would still be in one of the best bands ever, THE LIBERTINES.

The guys a smack head twat!! He deserves a kicking IMO. Such a waste of talent & I have no idea what Kate Moss see's in him. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

Without question he had talent, that's what makes it so annoying. He has an oppourtunity to make something of himself and he's throwing it away. The thing that really gets me though is the fact that he's smack head waster with a supermodel girlfriend, performing at big gigs such as live8 and there's kids that see this and think "I wanna be like Pete". It's almost like promoting hard drug use IMO. He needs seriously sorting out.

I didn't see the interview BTW.

Personally I don't see why the media are all wanking themselves over this guy. there's hardly a day goes by without some mention about him.
The record sales after Live8 say it all really.
Floyd +1343%
The Who + 863%
Libertines -35%
