Well, i knew it had to happen again. You cant ride committed and fast on Yorkshires roads for long before the boys in blue have a word or two with you.

For those of you who know, you'll remember that i was on 11 points, a result of 2 speeding charges last year.

Yesterday i was out on the bike on the A65 going to devil's bridge, just passed the junction for Clapham when i looked in the mirror and there was a police car bearing down on me with blue's and two's on.

Now, ive always said that if i get tugged again, ive got nothing to lose (well not much anyway) and that given my 11 points, i would do my best to evade them.

So, i knocked it down a cog, and nailed it. I rode like i'd never ridden before, wasnt "dangerous" so to speak, just very very fast - riding on pure adrenaline. Over took a BMW 2 up, a column of cars and kept going. The police got snarled up in the traffic, thus enabling me to build a lead. Dropping down into the village of ingleton, there was traffic everywhere, cars pulling in and out of junctions etc, it was just too dangerous to blast through at max chat, so i slowed down. By the time id got half way through ingleton, the car was right behind me, a glace in the mirror confirmed it was a Subaru Impressa, the sirens came on, and after briefly weighing up the options available to me. I indicated left, pulled off the road, killed the bike, and got off. I took helmet, gloves and ear plugs off, then just slumped against the wall waiting for all hell to break loose.

The coppers came up to me, this is the conversation that followed:

Cops: We've stopped you today for your speed. Do you know how long we've been trying to catch you up for?
Me: Catch me? Sorry officer i didnt realise you were there until i pulled over just now.
C: We've been chasing you for just shy of 10 miles. We know why you didnt stop, when we ran your plate, it came back with your 11 points - i think anyone in your position would probably try the same. Your lucky and unlucky all in one boat.
M: How do you mean?
C: Well, we only caught you because you slowed for the traffic in ingleton. If you hadnt, you'd have been away from us.. for now.
However, we had your plate, and if you had gone straight through ingleton at those speeds, you would be looking at a nice stretch inside. So you done yourself a huge favor in stopping now. In all fairness to you, the only real law your broke was your speed. You werent dangerous, you didnt cross any double white lines, you didnt overtake like an idiot, nor tailgate, you were just too plain fast.
M: Oh. Ok.
C: I must tell you you are now under caution, you do not have......

So, he did me for 96mph in a 60 zone, with the prolaser 3, at 1068 feet, travelling away from him. Apparently he'd been up a gravel track, on my off side, that is at 45 degrees to my direction of travel, he was completely concealed from all traffic both in my direction, and the opposite way.

He was polite, calm and collected all the way through, and even shared a joke about it when he was done - i forced a smile, even though i knew i had just consigned myself to a nice long heft ban.

Carried on down to devils bridge, where the bloke on the BMW 2 up came over to me, he;d overtaken me when the cops had caught me. He asked what they did me for etc, i told him. He said id come past him like a bat out of hell, then the cop car about 40 seconds later. He also said, that at the bottom of one of the hills, there is a sharpe right-left chicane in the road, with double white lines all the way through, apparently the police car had straight lined it at about 140 leaving nice black lines on the road is his tires fought for grip.

So, in a few weeks time i should be getting a nice court summons.

Ash t - i ride a CBR400 NC29 also. 1999 reg. Dont suppose you know any one who wants one do you? Ive decided to sell the bike untill my license is completely clean, and ive matured a little bit.

Thought id be safe on a 400, but i guess at 22yo all roads are a race track. Laughing

Yup. i deserve it lock stock and 2 smoking barrels.

said so to the copper. even jokingly tried bribing them afterwards.. asked them if they could rewrite it or even "lose" the paper work if i bought them a drink... they just laughed it off, and wished me a safe trip back.

It was stupid, but to some extent im glad i ran, cos now i know what it feels like, and its not nice. When i slowed for ingleton, and was trying to decide what to do, ive never thought so fast... my head was just a complete mess.... so glad i decided to pull over and not go for it again.

Makes a change to see someone admit they are in the wrong. Well done Thumbs Up

Could you use the bike on a track or won't the organizers let you do that if you've been banned? Don't know how it works.

Great read aswell. I'm sure the time will fly by Smile Thumbs Up

Cool story, unfortunate to hear about the ban, it'll pass quickly! Maybe buy a project bike to do up while your license is revoked?

If anyone knows any good traffic lawyers that charge reasonable rates, id be willing to hear about them. Going to try argue my way out of it...

It turns out that over 1000 feet, the pro laser III is inaccurate - they did me at 1068ft !!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

If i can get the lawyer to argue that the evidence is unreliable, then it may be classed as inadmissable and my chances of being let off are increased....

Middle Finger to the law!!!!!

Even if the camera is supposed to be inaccurate, all they have to do is look at your 11 points, previous speeding etc. and they'll probably side with the cops.

That said, im no lawyer, so dont take my word for it, it might be worth a go.

After getting near ban territory i think it would be wise to get a 125 4 stroker so you'd still at least have your freedom.
Good old hindsight eh?

Have you checked on Pepipoo. Lots of interesting stuff. Got me off with a speed camera ticket.

If nothing else, there are some traffic lawyers on the side banners.

I know what you mean about legging it. If they are behind you though they already have your plate.

However, saturday night (around 12) i was following my mates car just casually doing wheelies past it etc on a dual carriageway. Got bored and booted to the bottom, most of it on one wheel. Got to the bottom and the police car was going round the roundabout at about 11 oclock if you were looking from where i was, with its hazard lights on. Soon as i got to the roundabout the sirens came on.

Fuck that thinks i, they havent got my plate yet, and im pretty much home. Never expected my bike to die so much as when i dropped that cog. Cos you have two choices, behave and hope they arent after you, or really really flog off. And i know what my bike sounds like at full chat, they knew i was gone. But your constantly at your mirrors expecting a car directly behind you going sideways. Deliberating between nailing it and riding vaguely safely.
Expecting the bike to make a little puff and rull to a stop etc.

Not good fun.

I hate to be the one that says this to you but if you hadn’t run at all and pulled over when first flashed you may well have got of with a verbal warning and a stern talking to.

The police are there to do a job some times we just see the petty side of speed enforcement but they also educate and save lives.
Even after you ran these two police officers semed to treat you fairly witch is remarkable if you ask me. I know for myself if some one deliberately made my job harder and more dangerous I would take a very dim view of that person.

I am glad you respected yours and others life’s more than your licence and hope you ban is short and passes quickly.

Well done for having the bollocks to go for it in that 'all or nothing situation'. And more-so well done for admitting it on here. I was expecting some serious flameage.

Unlucky about your licence. But it'll pass.

Just devil's advocate here really, but what are they supposed to do, let all bikes ride around at 150 anywhere with total immunity?

I was going to stay out of this one but there are some, erm, interesting opinions Very Happy

Firstly, let me tell you a little story:

Picture the scene, a group of sports bike riders are out for a spin. One of the blokes is on a ZX6-R and is on a bit of an ego trip, he is trying very hard to keep up with, and beat, the litre bikes. Too hard, in fact. As they enter a left hander, he runs in way too hot. He's well cranked over but he runs wide, into the opposite lane, unfortunately for him, a 4x4 is coming the other way, also going fairly quickly.

One of the other bikers gets literally showered by the remains of the bloke and his bike, no-one else comes off or is hurt but three of the riders in that group never ride a bike again. I wasn't there but a close friend of mine was. He didn't ride for 3 months but eventually decided that he missed it too much. Don't ever make the mistake of believing that riding like a dick only affects the rider.

I've seen a head-on bike crash before, when I was in the car, I saw it coming but I couldn't do a thing to stop it. It was the car drivers fault (she was just infront of me) and the biker ended up in a heap right next to my car, he did nothing wrong but I was still shaking about three hours later. The Police see this sort of thing all the time, if they pull you over for riding too fast then you have to remember that they don't know if you are Valentino Rossi, motoGP god or Fred Bloggs, only passed his test 3 days ago. They are just trying to stop you from killing yourself (and possibly others) and really screwing up their day when they have to scrape you off the tarmac.

I don't really agree with the Police chasing bikers through villages etc but what is the alternative? Speed cameras covering every mile of road in the country? Don't knock the Police too much, they are human and you can possibly talk your way out of it, you can't talk to a Scamera. I reckon the best idea os to get your thrills on the race track, ride fast but safe on the road and keep your eyes open, if you're not being too daft, even a pull can be an OK experience. If you must do 150mph, do it where you know it's as safe as it can be.

Cheers

Grim

As a general rule, bikers kill bikers, car drivers kill everyone

I know you said as a "general rule" Siggi but here is the prefect example of an exception to that rule.

The Honda rider was travelling at such "very high speed", his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h before the bike hit the slow moving car side on at an intersection.
The Volkswagen flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly.

If you're going to speed and then bitch a bout it when caught ...don't speed.
Sorry but just because you pulled up when you did doesn't cut it for me. You stopped because you got caught. You also put others at risk because of a simple ban from riding.
At least you didnt push on and well done for that but this isnt a case of bad luck its a case of riding badly (unlawfully).
Ya fucked up simple as that. Take it on the chin like a man, learn ya lesson and get ya arse back on a bike as soon as ya can.
