Right, lets get straight to the point. In terms of looks only (forget performance/handling etc) which looks the dogs, the older ducs eg horizontal slit headlights or the newer stacked headlight? Vote..............NOW!

At first, I thought the 999 was ugly, but now I've come to love it. It's like it kinda looks right now. To me, it shows how far ahead Ducati are with styling. Smile

Yeah, I agree. The newer models really took time to grow on me. Now i accept them as the way the company is going although i still prefer the older models, hey look so cool. Cool

The 916 is an iconic bike and gorgeous to look at so Ducati were brave and forward thinking to make such drastic changes to an already winning design. However, the new 999 is a great looking bike too! The 916 will be remembered for a long time to come and is now a classic bike, but the 999 has the same potential too. You choose, cos I honestly can't! Smile Cool

916 all the way. I can look at a 999 now without wanting to fart in it's general direction, but I really cannot get excited about them. The 916 is an absolute corker. Thumbs Up

Is it me or do the standard 999’s not make much of a rumble?
The ones I have seen have been pretty quiet, I do like them A LOT though, I think the fairing designs are unforgettable, not like the Jap stuff.

I wasn't sure about the current styling at first and it took me a while to get used to it, but they look alright and I like the current underseat exhaust shape.

The 916 is nice too though and that green one looked great in The Matrix Reloaded.

I can't decide!

Just my humble 2 cents, for what it's worth.

The 916/748 Ducatis will always be a classic design. They were a classic as soon as they came out. Everything about the bike reeks of one designer's attention to detail. Apart from the Ducati finishing, I don't think there's any part of the bike that doesn't work, or 'fit' nicely among the rest of the design of the bike. The latest 998s, with the smooth fairings, look fantastic - the final evolution of the design. I think the design of these models has been slightly taken for granted due to the amount of 916s/748s/996s/998s on the road today. Not being snobby, but if there were a smaller number, they'd be all the more beautiful (saw a Foggy rep over the weekend at Box Hill - ooooo, mmmmm.... Razz )

The 999s/749s: when I first saw them I thought, what's gone wrong here? The bike looks like 2 different models welded together with a 'classic' Ducati trellis frame. However, like many, the design is beginning to work on me. It's still kinda agricultural to my eyes though and I think the front end (nose cone area) is still far too heavy for the rest of the bike. No offence to any frenchmen, but it looks like a Frenchmen's big nose on the front of a 'developing' supermodel. Neutral

The older Ducatis (especially those from the 70s) are just pure class. A lovely blend of classic styling and colours and real show pieces. They have the same quality as those supercars of similar vintage. Simplistic beauty (in realtion to the complexity of some modern design) but beautiful all the same. Wink

As for the other models - I always liked the funkyness of the Monsters - they look like fashionable street bikes, which in fact, they are (instead of just sportsbikes with the fairings ripped off). Not too sure about the 916 engined version, the radiator somehow takes away some of this - like the new version with twin stack pipes (needs to be Termignonis though!). Cool

The Multistrada - er - what? I think sums up what I think of this bike. Confused

916 a design icon - First time I saw one I stopped dead in my tracks, this didn't happen with the new bike.

I threw my leg over a 999 yesturday, I feel so much more of a man Cool

I prefer the 916/996/998 to the 999, but like both styles.

the old design as has been said is iconic.

the new design is nice until you get around to the back. the rear end is just ugly. and as standard those mufflers make them the quietest litre bike ive been next to. although i did see a 749 with termi's on it. that was different all together Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

i personally still prefer old
