Alright all. Just returned to biking after quite a while in a car and am wanting to do my direct access test as im 21. I rang a training company near me who advises that I will have to pay 85 for cbt, 100 pound a day training on there bike which they reckon will need 4 days then another large sum of cash for my test Surprised . All seems very expensive to me.

I have been riding bikes since 9 years old and was on the road on a bike from age 16 to 19 with no accidents or problems and I have been driving a car on road since then having passed car test first time. Will I really need 4 days training? I thought two would be ok?

Any thoughts?

Two should be fine. What size bikes have you ridden before? It will take about an hour max to get used to the weight of the 500s then it is just a case of practise.

With previous experience two days is easily enough.

Cheers for reply. I have ridden my dads BMW k100 rs16v before which is a 1000cc and weighs about the same as a small tank. Had no problems riding that at all.

How much training did you lot do for test?

Hi - passed my test yesterday, been driving 23 years but hadn't even ridden a moped before doing my CBT a couple of months ago.

I don't see how a training school can say how many days you'll need without seeing you riding.

I just booked a CBT initially - and did reasonably well and was told I'd only need two days (plus an hour's pre-test practice). I asked for an extra day between the CBT and DAS, on a 125, partly for confidence.

I would have thought you'd only need four days if you're really struggling on the CBT - if you can get the thing round corners and have roadsense there shouldn't be a problem with two or three.

Your best bet is to ring round a few schools or better still go and see them - after all, you need to like the people to be able to learn with them.
