hey guys, im new here, need some help with my bike.

i have a small dilema, well, a big one.

an old dirt bike that i own ( 1983 Yamaha DT125) is stalling everytime i put it into gear.

my dad and me already rebuilt the carb with new gaskets seals and everything. cleaned it thoroughly as well. we know that the air/fuel mixture is lean, that's when the bike chokes up everytime i put it into gear.

i tried lookin for some sort of service mauals on the internet for such an old model. but i can only find books that people want to sell.

so my question is, can i get a service manual for free off the net?
cause i know i can just rip to one of the local yamaha shops around here and cop one for $70.

i forget what part we replaced (i think it was the float), it was really tiny, and it cost us over $35. so i know if we try t buy a new carb for the bike the price would be well over $500. and that's more than what my bike is worth. Razz

i have tried other forums and they suggested that it might be my clutch. before we rebuilt the carb, the bike would not even start. asfter the rebuild, it started....but hesitantley.

suggestions/ideas/comments/help would be appreciated.

Do they have a sidestand switch? Stalling when going into gear sounds like a switch being faulty or a badly adjusted clutch?

sounds about right, on my honda clr125 if I have my side stand out when I put it in gear it cuts out straight away.

try turning the pilot screw out a bit-richer pilot mix may help things.

My NS125F used to do the same thing when the engine and transmission was cold, allow it to warm up a bit first and then try.

If not try what everyone else says, its probably something really simple like a kickstart switch or a poorly adjusted clutch!

Good luck

If it stalls when you put it in gear, try giving it some throttle to check it still does it even when throttling.

If so its almost certainly the side stand switch, which cuts the engine off upon leaving neutral, if the sidestand is down.

Rev it when you put it into gear, not only should it go into gear easier but it shouldnt cut out.

If it does cut out with a bang then it's your side stand switch.

It the thing bog's down then dies, its your clutch draging.

1983 with a sidestand switch? not likely IMO. Sounds like the clutch. Does the bike rev easily when still in neutral? and can you push it easily in gear with the clutch in?

If you can still push it easily its more likely to be a mixture problem, or some other problem. Im not a 2T person really though so I wouldnt take anything I say as gospel.

Try rolling it forwards quite quickly as you put it into gear, if it goes into gear and keeps running (and you can accelerate away) then it's probably a clutch problem. Adjust your clutch so it disengages. If you can't get it to disengage it may be seized. To solve that, you need to ride around with the clutch fully held in while giving it some throttle, keep accelerating and slowing down. That should free off a seized clutch (if it is seized). Good luck. Thumbs Up
