I read today that a guy who drove over a white line at a traffic light, as an ambulance came up with it's lights & sirens on was spotted by a camera, and subsequently prosecuted and convicted - £60 fine plus three points.

He did initially contest the decision but was advised ultimately to plead guilty as the costs were mounting up. In the story, (which I can't find anywhere online but was in the Daily Mail) apparently he saw the ambulance and to assist in its journey - drove over the traffic lights. The Police's atitude was - well he broke the law and the law is the law, and the ambulance service's atitude was well we have procedures to deal queues at traffic lights.

I suppose this means if a police car comes hairing up to you at the lights, do not move or cross the white line until he tells you to move (the Highway Code states you can disobey traffic signals if directed to do so by a police officer), otherwise they could prosecute you and if you impeding an ambulance do not cross the line whatsover or you are liable to prosecution.

I guess this is yet another insane example of a politically correct country following the 'rules' Twisted Evil

The Daily Mail will say anything to depress you, make you hate the government, etc.

Don't listen to a word they say.

Did he have any proof that he was moving for an ambulance or was it just an excuse for jumping a red light?

Have you ever noticed how much people panic when they see an emergency vehicle behind them, driving onto the pavements or slamming the brakes on causing the vehicle to almost rear end them?

Yeah its ridiculus, I usually just sit there and let them manover round me and then laugh as I watch every other motorist within a half mile mounting kerbs and killing pedestians to give a 5ft ambulance an 30ft berth!

You should really make an effort to give them room - It lets them know youve seen them, and lets other people know theyre coming.

If you just sit there as if youre ignorant to them, then they will be forced to proceed far slower as they will think youre blind and havent seem them.

I tend to be way faster than the emergency services anyway?
Flashing blues in my mirrors don't stay there too long... Wink

Seriously, I will always make room for an ambulance or fire engine, when in a car. Its only the bill that I drive normally for. They can bloody wait until I find a safe place to pull over. Razz
