Hi folks,

Is anybody going to the Donnington MotoGP in July?

Ive never been to one before but Im considering it. Its a 3 hour drive from Newcastle.

Couple of questions:

1) Anybody fancy going? £33 a ticket for raceday

2) Do the tickets usually "sell out"? If so how soon?

3) Reckon it would be wise to hike my bike 175 miles and risk a breakdown or other disaster, or should I just use a car? Id love to go on the bike if I can. No experience of long rides.

I want to go. Donington is 200 miles + from me...I think.

Problem is, I can see myself needing somewhere to stay overnight. Possibly 2 nights. Confused Sad

Yes, I'll be trying to go. If you do decide to take the car bear in mind that at the last Moto GP there it took some people hours to get out of the car park! Shocked

It's one of the things on my 2005 'to do' list. BUt I haven't got all the rest of my race calendars yet, and I've a funny feeling that I might be working elsewhere that weekend.

I shall be going. Last year was brilliant, Except it took over an hour to get off, and that was on bikes. its worth it though!

Newcastle is a fair way to come, but if you can, come on your bike!!

I shall be going again this year as I did last, hopefully for the raceday aswell this year.

But be aware its alot easier to go on you bike as there is dedicated motorcycle quite close to the entrance so none of this waiting for hours to get out.

So if I arrived at 9am we could get our bikes parked in the carpark at the race course?

We wouldnt need to navigate the local area to find somewhere else? Id probably get lost and end up on the race track.

Sounds cool if so, should be good fun.

Last year, Me and my Dad got there on our bikes at around half 8, and we parked about 5 minute walk from the paddock entrance. There was plenty of space for the bikes at this time. 9 am, you should be fine! Thumbs Up Cool

i was there this year for the world stunt championships
my first time in donington and to be honset i was not impressed
very little in the way of toilet facilities and you had to walk miles to get about the place because half of the gates were locked I.E. to get somewhere that was about 100 yards away through a locked gate you had to walk a mile all the way up to the next gate and back down to get where you wanted to go

went in the car last year 2 hours to get out due to bad marshaling

had two giant tv screens and you can get a good view of the track at some points

it was packed mind compared to bsb

the toilet facilities were very poor (not enough)

but plenty of beer tents and not bad food

you can pay on the gate if you dont manage to grap a cheaper ticket

Yes, compared to most circuits there are some areas where you can get quite a good view of a fair section of track (the bottom of Craner Curves, by the Old Hairpin is popular).

There are a fair few B&Bs in near by Loughborough, about 10miles away, stayed in a couple myself for other events, good service and not that expensive.

I went in 2003 and 2004, 2003, was awsome, went on back of mates bike so queues were much less of a problem and got a great vantage point, got this photo at turn 1.

2004 was a disappointment, was in the car so got stuck in the massive queues and bad toilet facilities, the racing made up for it though Smile

Thruxton is on the A303 isn't it? Smile

Why, you planning on going to the wrong circuit first? If so, pick Mallory, it's a lot closer Laughing

A long way. Thruxton's down here in Hampshire... I think it's in Hampshire... I really should know having been there about 3 times. Confused

Google says yes, it is in Hampshire, here.

Silver 0wl and I will hopefully be going to Donnington this year - then again, I hope to do everything every year!!! Rolling Eyes

Hopefully we will have both the GPZ and the NS125 back up and running by then too and if so, we will be taking the two bikes down!

It's a 300 mile ride for us, but that'll be half the fun!

Fran Thumbs Up Karma Thumbs Up

p.s. anyone got any good piccies to post of their previous Donington experiences?

Tickets never sell out, you can buy them on the gate or from a tout (cheaper).
Spectating - the bank opposite the old hairpin is good
Facilities are rubbish - like most circuits
Take the bike it's a great feeling riding with loads of other bikes plus it will still take an hour to get out of the circuit, but much, much longer in a car.

Lots of bargin kit to buy there as well...
