Could anyone recommend a new rear tyre for this bike? The old one is a Dunlop Arrowmax and may of caused the previous riders binning of the bike, as it seems to be of a very hard compound. The original tyres it comes with are a soft wet compound by Heidenau in Germany that make them specifically for the MZ's. I'm however not sure of the availability of these in the UK, nor the price of them.

Lol, i'll see how the current one goes for a while, I'll change it later.

It turns out my dad took the info off the rear tyre today, and gave it to the guy down at Church Street Honda to see how much a replacement would be. The tyre that is on it at the moment is more commonly used for 400cc sports bikes, so is made of the wrong compound, wrong sidewall profile etc... He did however say that if I got the info from the front tyre, he would be able to match it and give me a tyre that will go with the front.

PROGRESS...

Also, I know where the L-plate's going on the back, but where should it go on the front? Do you think I could get away with putting it on the front mud guard rather than my shiny new fairing? Or would the fuzz not like it being hard to see? Wink

Yea, I think you should be ok putting it on the mudguard, cut out so only the red L is visible, then painted black so you can't see it at all. That was a joke.

But seriously, front mudguard should be cool. I think they are ok with it as long as you have it on there...in all honesty, and I am not sure if honesty is taken too well on this forum most of the time, I never put my front L plate on my old NSR. Reason being (apart from it looking shite) is...well it looked shite. Plus I just kept it in my pocket of my jacket so if ever I did get pulled (once or twice it happened) I explained that it 'fell off' and I was going home to sellotape it on and they just said, "Ok well make sure you do." Yea ok, I will do so when you start catching people worthy of a telling off (London Bombers perhaps?) rather than pulling over an innocent biker like myself.

Now someone MUST have something to say/rant about that...

The police down here are shit heads.

They did my mate (got a zxr-400 now) for not having an L-plate on the front, it had fallen off on that trip due to a particularly rugged off roading experience on some of the Islands best roads Wink . Instead of doing him for no L-plates, they did him for riding a bike which he did not have a licence for! An L32! He may as well have been riding an R1, he would of got the same offense. It still massively affects his insurance today, he is paying 600 tpo on a zxr-400 in a low risk area, even after loads of phoning around.

When I got done for speeding, my rear L plate had snapped and there wasn't one on the front. As the police officer could see no L plates, she asked for my name address and If I had a full licence. I told her my details and said I didn't have a full licence and before I could tell her that I only had a provisional, she wandered off back to the police car, made a phone call and came back and said that theres no one that lives at the address and thought I had no licence at all! That was partly my fault as I had just moved and hadn't changed my address on my licence. She gave me no time to explain anything and then told me I'd get a letter through the post within the next week telling me what's going to happen.
I recieved no letters the following week and by the time I got the letter a month later, I'd totally forgotten about me getting pulled over.
I had to go to court, but I was quite lucky. All I got was a £150 fine.

Yeah, all sorts of stuff gets stuck to the tyres, but it's getting changed soon so I don't really mind.

Oh your bike was SM125! Motard with DOHC engine. nice model.
I heard SM125 can reach 120km/h.

Is this tyre W/T(with tube type)? mine is W/T and there's too few possible choice. CBR125 is tubeless and I'm envy of that.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Damn nice bike. Probably my favourite 4T 125 around, look great and go very well. From what I've heard they have a pretty powerful lump for a 125. Very Happy

Just put the L on the front mudguard. As long as you have an L on the front and rear which are both visible, you shouldnt have a problem. The plod probably wont mind as long as they are there. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice, I'll just stick it on the front mudguard, at the widest bit towards the end. The back can dangle below the number plate for now. It's a shame that it will be blighted by learner plates, but I plan on passing my test fairly quickly, at which point this will probably for sale and/or I'll have a go at tuning it.

WooHoo! The bike is fitted with new Dunlop GT501 rubber at the princly sum of £90 Laughing It looks so much better, and the bike feels so much more secure, especially on wet grass. Rolling Eyes
