i was doing car lessons from january till april when i saw the weather hottening up and thought "forget this, i'll go do my bike test" i passed first time with 3 minors

i was having 2 hour lessons most weeks all the way from january to april and i had 2 instructors (one had a heart attack) both of which said i was ready for my test (the original instructor said this back in march the other instructor i only had for 3 lessons)

come april i had boght a bike and couldnt afford to do the lessons and to be honest i wasnt really bothered about a car

now though there are new responsibilitys and a car is beccoming more vital (im not going to buy one, im a named driver on one)

i was wondering what you suggest i go through to go and book and take my test.

also i am working 9-5 and many instructors dont liek working outside of those boundarys.
plus i have seen loads of thich people with licences so it cant be that hard... i just have this complex about driving tests .. riding test i didnt!??

in my opinion, from a zero knowledge start, I'd say the bike test.

Bikes require a little more concentration to control them safely, with regards to balance, and multiple brakes, whereas a car cant fall over, and you just press the pedal to stop. Thereafter, in a car, you can concentrate on the road, and watch what happens.

I found learning riding easy after 9 years driving experience, cos I already knew what to watch for on the road, and could concentrate on handling the bike.

Car test IMO.

I have done both, and didn't really like the examiner sitting next to me, watching my every move.

At least on the bike test, the examiner is behind you, and you can get away with a little bit

Just my opinion.

however the examiner just follows you on the bike test.. and examiner actually sits next to you so can see if you crunch gears or over rev etc...


when i was doing my turn in the road (3 point turn)
i was doing it and i turned the car around no problems however my instructor was saying that i wasnt putting my handbrake on at the right time or that i was revving too high" on a bike this wouldnt matter but with the instructor next to you i think it does

I failed my bike test twice (once was examiners fault as she told me to go one way and she went the other ) but passed my car test first time with little minors.. so I'd say the car test was a peice of piss really. Either that or I'm just a naturally good driver got a few years road experience on the bike so maybe that made the car test etc a lot easier for me.

And I took to both vehicles like a duck to water.

But not by much. It all really comes down to the person really and how good they are in each type of vehicle. The car test does seem to be quite a lot more thorough though. But this could be down to the fact you're in control of a 1000+kg lump of metal...not 150kg.
