Whilst out for a ride yesterday I went through a village with a National Speed Limit (60mph)

Some old crumbly had painted an old For Sale & post in "Speed Camera" yellow. This made the car in front question the limit and through out the anchors. Being a Blind bend I couldn't overtake so had to slow down very quickly indeed... Evil or Very Mad There's some sad old get's about.

Has anybody seen anything similar near them?

some of the estate agent 'for sale' signs that are placed in peoples gardens are in the same colour, sometimes have to take a second glance to make sure it isnt a scamera

If it's dangerous go smash it up and throw it in his garden! It is bound to happen again as most people brake when they see speed cameras especialy when there aren't any warning signs. Unless of course its a proper sign Shifty

I bloody should, but It's on his/her property so it could be classed as criminal damage. Right before a bad bend as well. Sad

A small village called Haughton, near Stafford, has a 'action group' dedicated to slowing people down through the village (headed by my old headmaster) after they were refused a speed camera by the council.

To date they have painted for sale boards yellow, had chipboard 'policemen' made and put in gardens and continue to lobby the council for a speed camera!

As a result everybody I know delberatly speeds past my former headteachers house in a lower gear than necessary. Mr. Green Infantile, I know, but funny

There is one on the A7 and one on the A701. Considerably more elaborate affairs. They have built a full-on yellow plywood box complete with the holes for the camera and flash. The one on the A701 even has glass in the holes, you see it in the corner of the guys garden just as you round a pretty fast corner and have a momentary flash of panic.

Then you get efforts like this one: (No it is not real, the householder has put it up in their garden, I shit you not!)

Steal the jacket or burn it.

That's an accident waiting to happen.

Any chance people can put address's of these things so people can rip them down??

I notice the police said the fake speed signs in this link https://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/news/s/25/25761_villagers_install_fake_speed_traps.html
were legal if they're on private property and do not distract motorists.

This link https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/2539949.stm fake speed camera is legal because it is on private property and does not hang into the road or obscure motorists' vision

Appears a bit of an inconsistency here. A camera (fake or otherwise) is likely to distract a driver. As recent statistics have shown accidents can go up at camera sights (late/panic braking, you do the math). So isn't this something that's then illegal?

...oh, but it's in the name of safety so must be alright, can't prosecute then for fear of a backlash Mad

Steel it like in Max and Paddy and give it to a student...

They'd get more kudos from fellow students for a speed camera than they would for cones and roadworks signs.

+ Good practice for the real ones too.LOL

thats the pic of a fake camera in mossley congleton where i used to live.

he is just p****d off because cars drive past his house at all hours as he lives on an a road that goes up to bosley cloud and biddulph moor

he is trying to make them slow down so the elephant fart exhausts dont keep him awake at night.

17 accidents my ass. they are a pair of grumpy old biddies.

if they dont like it then sell up and dont live in a house backing onto an a road.

i used to live round the corner from them but on the nice quiet estate Thumbs Up

Real speed cameras use markings in the road - the little white lines markers indicate your speed according to how many you pass over in the time it takes to flash you (as seen Top Gear!) Surely this means that if there's no markings in the road near the camera then it's not a real one?
