Depends on the bike. Plenty of Blackbirds with over 100,000 miles on the clock but not to many two stroke 125's

When the bike's got more milage than the starship enterprise, then it's high. Wink

My Virago has 70K on the clock.

My Bandit has 65K on the clock, but has just had an engine transplant.

The RSX100 has 28K on the clock.

an old boss of mine had an MV Augusta with 7k on the clock.

Dealers wouldn't touch it when he wanted to trade it in.

Hi

Depends on the bike, how it is treated and how people perceive that bike.

For example I know someone who uses a high mileage 25 year old Ducati Pantah as their track day bike (including riding it to the track), where others would probably not dare ride it to a track, let alone rev it to the red line.

You can easily kill a bike in very few miles if you mistreat it.

Mileage wise we have a 51k old 1200 Bandit, 68k old FZ750, 41k old FZR600, 41k old GPZ500S and a 30k old ZZR600.

to be honest im not put off by milege at all, if the bike has been regulary serviced and maintained properly and the bike runs ok then high milege doesnt put me off.

As a general rule of thumb, Glass's guide reckon on 4k miles per annum!

If you talk to a dealer, then any milage higher than 1 at the moment is high as sales are dropping.
Realistically, I think more than about 5000 a year is considered high, as thats the threshold for insurance discounts.

I bought my ER-5 in december with 7500 miles on the clocks and sold it in july with 15200 miles on the clocks.

I told my insurance company i would do 3000 miles a year my bike has been on road 3 months ive done 3500, for a 125 i think thats quite a fair few miles for 3 months

how long is a piece of string?

A stroker 50 can be dead by 15000 miles,

CGs can run to 100,000 if looked after.

Big 600cc + engines generally run to 70kish if looked after.

Big 1000cc+ motors can go round the clock. For instance an FJ1200 is hardly worn at 60k and can go to 200,000 with regular maintenance and the odd camchain.

Stroker 50's are fairly bulletproof, i've got mates who've had 30k km out of one and sold it without it seizing. Craig_ who runs 125ccsb sold his and it''s now on 40k km on the oriiginal top end, although that was very welled looked after i'm led to believe.

Stroker 125's however are different, some may see 20k km on a original top end, but not many. Most will be dead after about 10-14k.

Other big bikes may last a hell of a long time, Hondas CB-1 have been known to go around the clock and a friend of mine has a nc23 with 53k on the clock but ate a bottom end bearing due to oil starvation caused by a blocked oil strainer, £80 and a 2nd hand bottom end later and it's back on the road. Not all 4t's are expensive to fix. Another example is a gsxrthou, one came in work the other day as en ex track bike, it had covered 30000 track only miles and was running sweet.
