Communication system for bike to bike

Just thought I would recommend a system we bought today from Maplins electrical.

We were quoted about £300 in J&S for a good system, but the whole set-up we got today was £130 and it is great!

There was the pack of FOUR walkie-talkies for £69.99, then 2 lots of the headset, wires and stuff @ £29.99 each.
There is a little button which velcros to your bar, and they are push button to talk.

With the talkies you get 4X rechargable battery packs and 2X mains chargers.
8 channels, a 2 mile range.

We are even taking them with us to Florida, in case we get seperated in WDW, (a net tip we picked up!!) Wink

A very good, clear, affordable system. Thumbs Up

Easy to set-up, (these things are sometimes a pain), and the talkies are quite dinky.

You can't use radios from Britain in America and the other way round. I believe they will work on the police frequencies.

Yes what ranger said, i'm affraid the PMR frequencys are not (legaly) useable in the us, they have their own band radio for walkietalkies/free public use... should be cheap to buy them over there if you can get the plugs to fit...

Let us know how the setup you have goes, i'd be really interested to hear how well it works over time (its on my mile long things to buy soon list)

What do you need to be looking for when buying the radios? I've already got a few different types that we've used with the cadets from time to time. I've never tried full headsets with them, most I've tried is headphones. Are they likely to work if I just buy the handlebar/headset and use the radios we already have?

In the UK we use FM for our CB (Citizen band) radio and AM for our military/police etc, but is the other way around for the US. it’s a fix penalty of £1000 for owning a AM CB radio in the UK so might also be the same in the US for a FM radio.
