Er, magic. It's not perfect, but okay for 10 mins or so. A bit of an artist's licence with the airbrush and some multi-layers.

It's not really difficult as long as you know how to use each of the tools properly.

Creativity is the biggest thing, vision it and you can bet you can do it in PS

Although, craigs23 - if you had duplicated the layer and changed it to an overlay, then just gone to colour variations to make it black. Then just delete the areas you want left original and then lowered the opacity to allow the original reflections to show through.

Would've made it look more real.

That's what I'd normally do with a single coloured bike, but the lack of quality of the image and the fact that the NC30 had multi coloured bodywork proved difficult.

Just need more practice I guess

By altering the colour variations do you mean:

Image -> adjustments -> variations

Because thats what i used and it doesnt look very real.

There are many ways for doing such alterations :

Image - Adjustments - Hue/Saturation

Image - Adjustments - Replace Colour

Image - Adjustments - Selective Colour

Image - Adjustments - Variations

There's probably many other ways, it really depends on what you're working on, what needs doing, what's selected, etc.

Just playing around with Photoshop (one of the programs I use a lot for work), or just practicing (i.e. doing little jobs like this) help to guage what's best used for what.

I'm still a beginner, finding new ways of going about things all the time.

I would duplicate the layer, then desaturate (CTRL + SHFT + U).

Then either use a variation, or colourise it (CTRL + ALT + U).

Then just delete what you don't want

also what colour rim stripes would be good on a colour like that green,white,red,blue?

White rim stripes on a white wheeled bike?

I'll just leave them as is - white wheeled NC30s look fantastic.

If it's a must have accessory, my choice would be on red ones, maybe even orange.
