Got up this morning and I'm still thinking about an incident last night, so thought I'd share Wink

Had to go to Hull to see a friend about going to Rufforth auto-jumble (insert the Road to Hull by Chris Rea pun, I know, I know, but someone had to Razz). Had a nice ride through the country A roads, sweeping bends, nice overtakes, you know the feeling. Anyhow, then joined the A63, a nice fast dual carriageway. Came up behind a Merc and overtook. Noticed the guy driving (no passenger) was on his mobile, holding it to his ear. Now I admit I did gesticulate with my left hand in a downward motion (i.e. put it down). With hindsight I realise this may have been interpreted as a wanker sign.

Anyhow, overtake ok and pull away, as you do. Then there's this Merc tailgating me, way too close for the speed. Overtakes and gives me the V sign. Then I'm behind him (slower traffic so in right hand lane) and he sprays his screen washer over the car. I pull back but everytime I close the gap the same happens. Oh, and he did have to do some severe braking for traffic in front, obviously he's not looking ahead. He pulls in to the left lane and I go to overtake. Find he's then matching my speed, looking at me and mouthing something or other. Coming up on slower traffic in the left so he pulls ahead and comes over to the right, causing me to brake to avoid collision. I'm wondering if I should have just nailed it to get ahead of him there, but then again, with him behind me would I not be in greater danger?

Now this road has one set of traffic lights which were on red (these will be removed soon). So able to filter down to the front. All I was thinking was that it would be wise to get away from this guy.

So, I'm thinking if I should have taken the opportunity to stop behind him at the lights and have a quiet word? Should I have phoned the police when I'd reached my destination? (didn't because thinking his word against mine so police wouldn't want to spend the time).

I know threads like this there's always someone who says kick the car or take the mirror off. As he'd probably got my plate that would have been criminal damage and I didn't want to go down that route.

Again, in hindsight, thinking would I do the same again to a driver using a mobile. I'd have to say yes, because it could save a life.

Anyone in the Hull area or on the A63/M62 seeing a light grey/silver Mercedes 230 CLK reg. Y192LHE please give the male driver my regards.

When I see someone inattentive on their mobile I like to ride up alongside them and look through the side window whilst miming talking on a phone by holding my fist alongside my helmet with the thumb and little finger extended.

It is best when the passenger notices first Very Happy

You gotta be ready for them to swerve all over the road when they do see you though.

I must admit, I would probably have toyed with the guy in the Merc and wound him up even more (overtaken him then waved my arse in the air whilst slapping it in a 'pucker up' gesture or something) but then I don't know when to let sleeping dogs lie. So 10/10 for self-restraint Map Thumbs Up

I had someone like this once , i'm not proud of it and it was a disgusting thing to do but i was really angry at the time , i pulled alongside them , lifted the chin guard on my helmet and gobbed straight in their face .
As i said i was pretty angry at the time , this tosser had pulled out on me in his convertable on a roundabout whilst on his mobile and then gave me the wanker signal when i hit the horn . he was actually really lucky he didnt stop or i would have jumped into the back of his car and pulled his yuppie head off.

Stinkwheel nailed it. Restraint is the key. You don't know who the guy/woman is. They could be escaped from a loony bin or police.

A freindly wave works too. It might make them think you know them.

Or carry a 2lb Ball Peen and go for it.

A hot day and a race can is good for this one, which I have done a number of times in the past...

Pull alongside them - if it's a hot day they'll normally have their window open. Whilst they're busy chatting away on their handheld mobile, just pull in the clutch and rev the bollox off the bike. Then speed off. The look on their faces is just priceless! Laughing

The best one is when you're out with someone else. Me and t'other half have both been known to do this in quick succession to a muppet on the phone. Satisfaction or what...? Wink

A tw*t who uses his mobile whilst driving is always going to be a tw*t who uses his mobile whilst driving. You getting angry with him won't help unless of course you pull him from his car, beat him within an inch of his life and threaten to eat his family. At this point he might realise the error of his ways.

I hate people who use mobiles and drive. Most of the people who have pulled out on me have been on mobiles. I think it should be punished far more harshly.

If they have the window open then just ride past them and grab the phone off them (providing that they have it on their right ear) and chuck it in the side of the road.

Then blast off! If they do go to the Police then they were the ones talking on the phone and you can add some stuff about dangerous driving/swerving etc lol.

Make sure u are able to either outrun their car or beat them up if it comes to it!

I have had a situation when someone was on their mobile phone whilst driving in their big ass 4X4 thing in the MIDDLE of a 2 lane road that was quite narrow.

Only the fact he swerved at the last minute is what stopped me hitting him head on at 80mph.

Before anyone says anything...

I had come out of a corner and was in the middle of my lane. this 4X4 was in the middle of a narrow 2 lane road.

The person had enough room in their lane to not be in middle of road.

It is amazing how often you're following someone, who's drifting a little. They don't seem to stop for roundabouts, and are usually at the wrong speed for whatever they're trying to do. Then you clock the hand next to the head, or in some cases the head pressed to their shoulder..... Arseholes the lot of em.

Unfortunately, driving while on the phone is still being seen in the same way speeding is. Not really a problem. I'll never cause an accident, I'm a better driver than that.....

Big fan of the high revs next to the open window. Or shut for that matter. In fact, try and rev your bike loud enough to shatter any of the windows. You've got to have a target.... I'm also fairly adept at the visor-up, shouting at full pelt, "Get off your f**king phone, you c**t". One guy did almost swerve into me as I scared him so much though....

I'm not sure of the logic that states that punching someone in the face is ok, but spitting isn't. I quite like the spitting idea.....

I think chatting to someone while driving distracts you from what is happening on the road. I dont think using a mobile is much worse than chatting with someone in the car. I find it particularly distracting when my car driving instructor prattles incessantly when I'm trying to concentrate on what I'm doing.

I dont alway react that well when my instructor tells me to change the way i drive and the chances of persuading someone using a mobile that they should put it down are slim.

I wdnt challenge anyone over something I thought was dangerous as they are likely to do something more dangerous.

I think increasing your speed while being overtaken is seriously fucking dangerous and far worse than using a mobile. Unfortunately Im not sure if police prosecute for that.

If someones a wanker they are unlikely to change there behaviour if you let them know what you think.

Although sometimes I have contemplated acts of vengeance, its a bit self-indulgent and doesnt really make the world a better place.

The reason wankers drive big ass 4x4's is they nearly got hurt when they crashed in the past and now they have a bit of cash, would prefer to kill everyone else while they feel safe and reckless in their tank.

In another thread someone said that you can get someones address from the dvla for a fee if you give a plausible reason. Id suggest revenge is a dish best served cold as you can get the response just right without actually being a danger on the road yourself.

I am not responsible for any bricks through windows that may result.

If someone overtakes me just after I have overtaken them, Im safer behind them.

Can't hurt to call the police - doubt they'll do anything, but could be useful if the person was in an accident later or similar.

If you're bigger than them or they don't look like they'll be violent, then a 'quiet word' is worth it. To be honest, unlikely you'll convince them that they are being a twat and you're not an areshole, but you might as well try Smile.

As if on cue...

Coming home tonight on the M6, mateyboy in black Lexus waffling away on the phone pulled out and executed a near-perfect overtake from Lane 1 to Lane 2.

When I say near-perfect, the only problem was me being on a bike alongside the fucker as he pulled out. Even the truck behind me blasting its airhorn didn't alert him to the fact that he was just about to take out a bike at 60mph.

A size 10 in the door panel did though...

Cunt.

I can't explain it, but the phone does seem to make a difference to someone you're just talking to in the passenger seat. Just from experiences of following people. No, not everyone on a phone is doing something dangerous. It just seems like it's getting more and more common to someone doing something dangerous, on the phone.

Driving with an instructor especially, but just with anyone else in the car, ALWAYS makes drive more carefully. I'm a lot more conscious of not appearing to drive like a wanker in front of someone I know. When you start driving alone, you will end up playing with radio, talking on your phone, eating, drinking, smoking, playing with yourself..... I've had the occasional moment on deserted motorways, where I've been playing with my iPod or something for a few seconds, looked up and thought "I'm sure I was in the inside lane.....". Embarassed

People on the phone seem to be less aware of their mirrors, road position, and other vehicles. You see them drifting from side to side, not indicating etc. way before you see they've got a phone on the go. I used to think that behaviour was probably a drunk driver..... How times have changed.

Flicks the kill switch. Thumbs Up

I was road raged the other week.

Some bloke was being an arse so I shook my head at him and rode off. He catches up with me at the lights (3 lanes) he screaming through his window at me "What the f*ck are you shaking"..blah, blah and takes his seat belt off.

Now I don't mind a scrap but this bloke was huge!!. I'm now thinking by the time I put my stand down etc he'll be out of the car hitting me. Hmm.

So I raised my index finger (as in 1 min), lifted my visor and said "what?"

Anyway, he went mental. Lucky for me I saw the traffic in front pull off, I left a little gap waited for him to stop shouting. Screamed "F*ck you" , etc, etc, and nailed it. Laughing

He chased for a bit but I kept filtering etc so he gave up. Laughing

Makes me wonder what would have happened if I'd stalled at those lights though. Confused

I had a guy in a Mitsubishi pickup truck on his mobile nearly hit me a while back. He was in the left lane of a dual carriageway and I was in the right hand land, I was overtaking and he pulls into my lane nearly hitting me. I had to slam on my brakes and he nearly lost control of his truck when he noticed me.

But he still carried on talking on the phone! So I pulled up along side him in a low gear and proceeded to beep my horn continuously. He responded with various finger/hand gestures. I eventually had to give up when a big queue of traffic formed behind me.

I wonder if you can buy localised mobile phone jammers, so that you can disconnect someone’s call. Thinking

Someone once said that people gesture at other drivers like they swear at the TV, with little comprehension that they can answer back. Comes from the 'home is his castle' thinking extending to vehicles.

Good advice is only dish out insults if you're fully prepared to take it to the next level.

If someone does something stupid, then rain down on them I say.

If someone is doing something illegal, but not directly affecting you - it's a tough call. The person has already made a concious decision to do something illegal, and will be very likely in an anti-authority frame of mind. If someone comes along and tries to exert authority they don't actually have - things can get nasty.

they aren't all bad Smile

Following an Espace off the M11 into Cambridge the other night, the pillock had his rear fogs on. Flashed him a few times, saw him lookingn in the mirror, but nothing.

Pulled up beside him at the lights, opened the visor, and he wound down the window..

"What!!?!?" he kinda snaps at me..

"you've got your fog lights on mate" says I..

[looks down at dash]

"oh, sorry... Thanks..." he says, turns them off and away we go in our respective directions Smile
