I have just been told that having a race license can reduce the price of trackdays?

Anyway, even if that isnt true, how do I get a race license? I hear they cost £30.

cheers

It's not true.

In fact, some trackday companies seem to be trying to disuade racers from taking part in their days.

Anyway, do a search cos I'm sure a few people have written about how to get one. Will cost you more than £30 though, and if you're not actually racing you'll need to keep redoing it to keep it 'live'.

Find out the closest MCC or racetrack to you and ask them. I had to do a 2 two assesment to make sure I wasn't going to be a danger to myself and others. I also had to join my local club. I had to do a medical etc. Can't remember costs exactly but it wasn't too expensive.

Cheers

Most places are happy with a standard FULL DVLA licence, i've only seen a couple of places asking for an ACU licence.

Never seen anywhere offering an ACU discount, have asked a couple of times to see if I could blag some money off as well Smile.
If you were to use your ACU licence you would probably be put in an ACU group.
Expect that the pace may well be quicker than the fast group, also expect proper passes; block passes and very close lines.
I find proper race practice days very good; I get to ride with a lot of people of similar abilities under race conditions - track is only stopped if there's need of medical attention, so no red flags for simple crashes.

To get an ACU licence you need to have done a suitable race school and complete a theory test (£50 at ACU headquarters in rugby). If you don't do three races a year I think you have to repeat these every year.
You have to be affiliated with a club which is £30 a year or so and also get ACU membership which is also about £30 a year. Not really worth the effort unless you're doing some racing really.
