Well sort of no V5... the deal is.. he bought the bike for a winter hack, but he's cleaned it and serviced/mot/taxed it and it's too nice/good condition to use as a hack so he's selling it to get a scooter.

He has the new keepers supplement from when he bought the bike, and has all the keys, paperwork and will write a receipt etc. He also works for the government so says he has to be "squeaky clean" although I really ignore his last comment about that as I don't think working for the government makes you any more trustworthy Laughing

So.. he has sent the V5 off when he taxed it by post and is waiting for it to be returned.

Should I proceed with buying based on all the paperwork he does have and the receipt etc?

It's not a particularily expensive bike.. £700 .. not that it really changes a lot but still Confused

Also I will HPI check it.. so if it was stolen or written off (only reasons he wouldn't have a V5....) then the HPI report would bring that up surely...

How could anyone nick a bike as well as the keys + paperwork + service history etc?? Very unlikely?

Just want to make sure it's worth proceeding with this.. it all seems pretty legit to me considering the paperwork he does have etc.. but just wanted to see what others thought.

p.s he's just sent me a picture of all the paperwork (sat on the seat of the bike for sale..) .. he's just taxed and moted it so surely must have had the v5 to tax it.. (done by post apparantly) he just had it serviced and MOTed also. Both original keys are also in the pic now..

As long as the HPI comes up clear it should be fine.
The fact he has new keepers supplement only shows he is getting rid of it in less than a month - thats what would concern me.

As for squeeky clean goverment types don't believe it. Dodsi works for MI5 but has a secret collection of pornos hidden under his bed so vast and vaired that even Ron Jeremy himself would be proud of. Tom, you are a dirty boy Laughing

when you hpi it,tell them his name & address - i beleive they can say yes it is registered to that person at that address.

Or you could ring the DVLA and ask them if they have received it / processed it yet.

HPI it, when doing so your covered up to £10,000 if they get anything wrong. Say they say its not stolen and it turns out to be you'd get what you paid for it back from HPI!

If looks the trustworthy type then do the deal, I sold a bike with no V5 as I hadn't received one from the DVLA yet. I kept the new owner in touch, and actually got them to come down and sign the V5 when I got it.

Thanks for help but for other reasons I've decided not to go with it... he seems trustworthy enough but he mentioned one price then turned around and said he wanted X amount and no offers?! Rolling Eyes

No outgoings is a great thing, enjoy it whilst you can, that's what I say..........Very Happy Thumbs Up

I personally wouldn't leave a deposit or buy it without the v5. I wouldn't leave a deposit full stop with a private seller. How easy is it for them to just bugger off with your money???

Neither do I. And how exactly do you think I can afford so much?? I can't! Confused I just save everything for bikes. I don't go out drinking, smoking or anything else that costs money. Just spend it on bikes.

CB5's aren't exactly expensive.

What exactly can I afford?!?!

I drive a 96 ford escort, not exactly expensive.. looking for a cheap CB5.. not exactly expensive either?!?! only expensive thing I have is my KTM but that took ages to save up for.

You're just annoying with your wild assumptions that aren't true. I work like everyone else and don't get paid any more than anyone else, I just save like everyone elese and eventually buy what I want, like everyone else Smile

I don't really care what you think, you're entitled to your opinions but leave it off the forum yeah?! You're boring everyone Razz

The RAM isn't mine.. It's my dads I said that about 20 times so did Bendy. I only posted the pictures because I thought it was something more interesting than the shit thats posted on here at the minute Wink

If it's not of interest to you then don't reply to it, I don't reply to half the threads on here for that very reason.

Just becuase my dad has a RAM doesn't mean he pays for anything of mine. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Its not that difficult though to afford a bike you really want. Thing is I do crappy low paid temping jobs and still saved up more than enough money to afford the ZX-6R and all the running costs with it. Depends on how much you want to cut back really.
