Not that I can think of any reason to actually doing this, I'm just curious. But is two bikes riding side by side legal? What's a copper likely to do if he sees this?

riding staggered means there is less chance of running into the bike infront of you if you get out braked by them,
TBH if a copper saw you staggered and not side by side or directly behind the bike infront they would probibly see that as a good thing that you are riding safely Thumbs Up

There's no law against riding side by side as long as your both on the right side of the road.
I still think there's a gray area about getting caught by a scamera when your side by side. The frame is gonna have two plates on it and both can argue that the other was the one speeding.
How the hell can the police prove both were speeding?

i dont think there is anything illegall about it as horses often ride 2-3 horses side by side, as long as your not riding dangerously or obstructing the road i should'nt think it would cause a problem

Aren't horses and pedal cycles supposed to ride single file?

well me sister is well into the horse riding lark and in all the exams etc shes done, she has been told that its legal to ride side by side, sumat to do with extra visibility, and to slow traffic etc.
also horses that go mental at traffic are meant to travel on the inside of an un-nervy horse to calm them down.

Like Siggi said, Gatso cameras take two pictures, and they have road markings. Wink

Like getting your knee down, pulling wheelies and stoppies, and burnouts, (of which there are no specific individual offences) your actions could well be considered to be riding without due care and attention, or even dangerous riding, obviously dependant on the circumstances...

I know it's not illegal for 2 pushbikes to ride 2 abreast in the road (although it makes it more difficult to overtake..grrr!). Seeing as motorbikes can keep up with (and travel faster than) the flow of traffic, then I can't see that it would be a problem.

I was riding side by side with my other half whilst travelling into work this morning on the bikes. I think that staggered riding is easier and safer, but riding side by side surely can't be illegal.. Question

Utter bollacks, horse riders are only allowed to ride in anything but single file when they are taking out a unexperienced rider or horse.

It is illegal to ride in double file with 2 fully experienced riders and horses.

Someone on a another bike forum came round a bend and was faced with a horses rear end, the bike killed 1 horse and the horse rider bollacks her back, the court found that the horse rider that did her back in was to blame as they were riding double file on a blind bend.

Interesting, I would have thought that was the riders fault - After all, there could have been a stationary car around the bend; He should have been riding suitably slow that he could "stop in the visible distance".

Maybe this error on his behalf is forgiven as the horse position was illegal to begin with though.

Horses side by side take up a lot of room, more so than a parked car. Also, I'm sure the driver of the car would be responsible as he shouldn't have parked on a blind bend. especially if it's double yellowed or something. Wink

A situation where riding side by side would be when in a slow town/city on the way to/during/after a rideout. If you all ride two-a-breast then you take up the entire lane and subsequent pairs make a 'block' formation. Not only does this mean other drivers have to keep their lane discipline i.e not bullying into our lane, but it also makes you more visible/noticable, and also means that f a pack of you don't make it through a light change and the front pack do then you will not be on your own. Thumbs Up
