I think 33bhp would be a bit optimistic Laughing

21bhp is more likely given the fact that it is designed as a commuter with reliability and a usable power.

Its actually about 17hp at the wheel on a standard 180 jogger.

Really? Is that all??

I heard a standard Runner 125 SP makes 14hp at the wheel. Only 3hp more? Neutral

Should be good for a top speed of 150mph and a 0-60 of 3.2 seconds...

...or so most scooterists will try and convince you.

If your doing your restricted bike test why not get bike and not a scooter, a gs 500 or something similar will piss all over a gilera 180 and is alot cheaper and alot less emarassing than riding something that is trying to be a bike but isn't quite there

If I was going to spend a couple of grand (or whatever) on a bike and someone else had a good reason to think I wasn't making the best choice, I'd want to be told - at least to give me something to think about.

I appreciate some people research choices, but when it's an early bike, people often don't.

Personally I'd much prefer to have a 500 against a scooter for any town work above 20mph.

Have you ever riden one?

I have and i can't say i noticed any difference from a 125 ped.

The guy is asking about power for a reason, because he wants some!

You might aswell stick with a 125 on L plates before your test, then stay with it afterwards untill you want to move onto a commuter bike or sports bike. Thumbs Up

Why don't you get a 1000RR instead of you're 600 thats *trying* to be a sportsbike but just quite isn't?

I didn't say what bike he should have just that in my opinion spending a grand + on a scooter after having a full lincence is pointless as vfr400uk said you would not notice much more power over a 125 ped and something like a 500 will have alot more power for little more money than a gilera 180 which will not obliterate a 500 aroud town ever seen a courier in central london ??, They don't ride gilera 180's for a reason

125 will be maknig about 11hp at the wheel, Manufacturers quote at the crank figures which are higher.

Guys, don't slag off a 180 runner till you have tried it. I know plenty of Busa and 12 owners who use them to commute on and think there great. Can't beat them for getting thorugh traffic. As Kye says, nice 180's can be picked up very cheap as they are worth less than the 125's as they are not learner legal.

I always heard the 2 stroke runner 180 was a great laugh, if I had to have a scooter it would be that one.

But is there any reason why you don't fancy a geared bike? any 125cc 2 stroke would out perform the runner on all counts.

How about a 125/180 Italjet Dragster?
Same engine and much better looks IMO.
Just be careful about the electrics - I took Italjet to court(and won) over a 'Friday special' they sold me. Smile

Well I'm 16 and to be honest if I didn't have my Aprilia RS50 (derestricted) or the option of buying one of the other (derestricted) geared 50s - TZR, Rieju RS2, GPR, Mito, NSR, RX, or any 50 supermotos then I would stick to a pedalbike until I could get a proper bike licence because I would rather pedal than go around on a scooter!

They look muppety, are boring to ride, slow, lack road presence (dangerous) and you are branded a chav when you ride them.

Plus in the "who has ridden most bikes when they are young" competition, I have ridden TS50, RS50, CRF450(round a MX track), crappy old Honda 100, CBR600, ZX9R Ninja, Busa and a Big ass Harley V-twin (not sure which one, not into Harleys much!) And my minimoto!!

So yeah... Dont get a scoot, get a real bike and enjoy it!!

Matt Thumbs Up
