Hi folks,
Just wondering why people often say that loading the engine at low revs/speeds is bad for it? I also heard someone mention that particularly during running-in this is bad for the engine. Why?

And by "loading it" I presume people mean giving it lots of throttle when its at low revs, right? Like, say, pulling from 5mph in second gear?

It's making the engine "labour", does it no good, causes wear problems. If it bogs down and won't pick up and go when you open the throttle then you're in the wrong gear and loading the engine.
Doesn't help when running in as you're supposed to be bedding everything in using the right rpms and lightish loading.

If i'm below 3-4k in say 5th or 6th gear and whack the throttle open it sounds like theres a load of ball bearings rattling about somewhere Shocked doesn't do it at any other revs though.

That sounds like pinking, -knocking under load when the fuel detonates instead of burning. The lower the fuel octane the more you are likely to get it, run it as it should be and it's fine, put it under load and you get the pinking.

Thats nearly red-line on my engine, and iv only got 4 gears aswell. I can happily ride along in 4th at 30mph at what is probably about 900-1000rpm, open the throttle and pull all the way to its top speed of 80-ish Embarassed lol. This is on an engine that doesnt have fancy thigs like roller big end bearings, gear oil pumps etc. When running in it can be a problem, but seems fine afterwards.
