Morning all.

After my little spill the other day, it's come up about me having a race can on my bike. It's a Micron can off a ZX-7R (apparently, but from the sound of it it probably is). Now what's the possibility of my insurance being invalidated for having this on?

The accident was entirely the third party's fault as you can see from the pictures, but I know what wankers insurance companies are and the slightest thing they can do to stop a payout they will. Some people on here have said it'll be fine, other's not so.

Anyone out there be able to clear it up once and for all?

Have you declared to you insurance company that you have a race can on the bike? If you haven't then your insurance will probably be invalid. Sad

When I had a race can I told the insurance company that I had a replacement exhaust. They then specifically asked me whether it enhanced the bike's performance/power. I played the ignorant card and said that I'd just had a new exhaust fitted as the old one had rusted. I never had to claim with the race can on, so I couldn't tell you whether that worked or not. Confused

Hi

They might try playing about, but realistically they would have to show that it was relevant to the accident. Cannot see how it was so you should be OK.

All the best

For my insurance they were only interested in the value of the aftermarket items, not a single question about improvements. Apart from major engine mods is there anything that would really change the power output of a bike to the point that it changes insurance groups?

Hi

Depends on the bike, although nothing is really going to affect the grouping. They will just load the insurance.

For example, the exhaust on a 1200 Bandit is fairly useless. A decent exhaust system will add about 20% power (most bike you are probably lucky to get a 5% improvement, but then most have better exhausts to start with). With a restricted 125 some minor mods could easily add 50% to the power output.

All the best

I had a spill back in February, with £1700 of damage to the bike (no other parties involved, no one to claim off). No modifications were declared to the insurance company, but they replaced a race use only Micron carbon fibre can for a new one.
