Can someone recommend a front tyre, 120/70 R17 for a GSX600F?

Ta,

Just at a look at the rear and its a maxxis Confused So maybe the question is what tyres, front and rear, are recommended.

little bit of commuting, general plodding about, its my first bike after a few years lay off. I live about 5 minutes from the peak district so a lot of small twisty roads Wink . I would call my riding style 'sedate with random madness'. I don't aspire to ginding bits of my knees off, but something that wouldn't let me down if I take a corner a bit fast would be handy. At the moment I'm looking at going back to standard sizes, 110/80/17 front and 140/80/17 rear, so BT45's look ok Question . Can get the pair for about £125-130.

Do you think the 090's would be better? Wear isn't a major problem since I can only use the bike for work a couple of times each week at best. I'll be suprised if I manage 4000 miles a year probably closer to 2500. With the roads round here good grip is probably the most important part, particulary under braking.

my mate uses 090's on his zx6r and does plenty on round about surfing with knee glued to the deck

lots of grip and his have lasted 4000 miles and that is giving it absoloutly loads on the road all the time

Only problem with the 090's is that they are a lower profile but I don't think that matters too much.
Any recommendations on where to get them mail order, already looked at M&P and MPS and can get the pair for £140ish which is ok but its always worth seeing if you can get them cheaper. Wink

If you want to go back to standard sizes try Metzeler Lasertecs, basically like BT45's using older cross ply technology but a newer compound and decent tread pattern.

You can also get them in the oversize 120/70-17 and 150/70-17 sizes, I have one on the front of my GSX600F and cannot fault it, that can't be said about the MEZ 2 Radial I have on the rear.

Though I would recommend you go back to standard sizes in BT45's as they rock!

I thought 090 and 045's exactly the same tyre like the 010 and 014's?

Personally I'd go with 020's Harder compound so will last longer but still very good grip. Alot of people use a 010 on the front for extra grip and 020 on the rear for a bit longer life.

The 090's look to be a softer compound than the 45's.

The 020's seem to be more expensive and I would have to fit a 150 on the rear. Lasertec seem ok but what about the me z4? This could go on forever, but there seems to be some confidence in the 45's.

The 090 is designed for little light things that don't weight enough to get an 010 or 020 hot.

A big lump like a GSX600 will chew it up in no time.

010s or the new 014s for grip, 020s for good grip and mileage.

A BT45 is an inferior tyre to these, they are reasonable but its now a very old crossply tyre. The 010s, 014s, and 020s are a decent radial.

It might be a old cross ply design, but the compound in the BT45 is far from old.

Also the GSX was designed for use with Cross Ply's not radials anyway.

Just had a look on www.bridgestone.co.uk and tried the tyre selector. It suggested BT45's for my big old lump. The newer GSX brings up 020's.

Metzeler - no suggestions

Dunlop - D205F or K655F

Avon - AV45 and AV46

Michelin - macadam 50

Pirelli - Sport Demon

Mark, Metzeler recommend the Lasertec for the GSX600F, as its so new its not yet listed on the fitting guide.

The dunlops are OK tyres, the K655 was the OE tyre for the GSXF way back when it was launched, so I wouldn't trust that tyre!

Avons are just shite.

The Michelin Macadam 50 is a rock hard old cross ply that I wouldn't put on a wheel barrow never mind a bike.

And the Pirelli Sport Demon is the Metzeler Lasertec rebranded. Wink

So its lasertec then Thumbs Up , to be honest it doesn't make much difference because I have nothing to compare to apart from an oversize avon front and a Maxxis rear Laughing I was going to wait until I strip the bike down but don't think I want to carry on too long with the setup I have at the moment Sick
