Hmmm not good I suspect, the bike is also overheating quickly.
Just need to check I'll need new gasket set pistons rings etc?

Its a 125 2 stroke xtc125. I only just got a top end rebuild including the barrel rebored by stan stevens grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Also where is the restriction in the xtc? I believe its in the powervalve but im unsure how to 'open it up'.

Thanks Adam

Hi

Errr, who put the top end together? Was it all torqued up correctly?

If you are lucky then you just need a head gasket. However if it has overheated then there is a reasonable chance the head is warped (and seriously overheated then the barrel and piston would likely be damaged).

If they are new then there is no point replacing the rings.

All the best

Keith

YES!! Thats made my day that I thought the garage who fitted the top end did a shit job, the electronics were all messy and nothing like as organised as they were when the bike first went in.

How do I find out if it was torqued up correctly?
If I do find they fitted the top end incorrectly how do I hold them responsible?

Thanks Adam

Hi

You cannot really tell easily. When you torque them up you go cross wise, not just round the head. For example if there is a stud at the 12 oclock, 3 oclock, 6 oclock and 9 oclock positions, you would go 12, 6, 9 then 3, not 12, 3, 6 then 9.

Normally you do them up in stages.

Also possible that someone has done something silly like grease or use instant gasket on a gasket that already has sealant on it (many look like they are varnished).

All the best

Probably best off taking it to them, explain whats going on and ask them to explain themselves.

After a rebuild a head gasket just does not happen to go? There is defiently something causing it .
When the rebore was done stan stevens matched a piston and said to fit an extra gasket as it was knocking with the one. When we went with the barrel, piston etc they were very unsure about this and I was not convinced that they understood, mind u I didn't either!

Hi

Can happen but should not.

Not sure on the TZR, but generally I would expect them to have used an extra base gasket to raise the barrel up a touch. I presume by knocking he is talking about compression issues, and needing to raise the barrel a touch to lower the compression a bit.

With a lot of head gaskets there is a metal ring around the inside of the gasket. Doubt these would work very well if 2 head gaskets were used (although I have never tried it).

All the best
