Know of a boy who done it on GT4 in 4.59.

Definately wouldn't mind going but there would be a lot of nutters.

I think you would get to the first bend and crash in some style. It is very different to the playstation.

the Nurburgring is supposed to be one of the best tracks in the world, but it's also one of the most dangerous, which is why it's no longer competitively used (well, not for F1 etc)

A friend of mine was almost killed there, when he crashed on his bike. The was so little run-off he hit the armco, immediately after that the bike hit the armco, then bounced off him.

Another mate (my boss) also crashed in his Elise there, totalled it (think it was a spin).

I sometimes quite fancy a trip myself, but know of so many VERY GOOD drivers and riders who have come a cropper there, not even when pushing it, that I have second thoughts almost as soon as I think about it.

I don't want to put off anyone who fancies it.. it is definately an experience. Just treat it with the care it deserves.

Were you camping on the field opposite with 2 other bikers?

Yeah that was us! We'd arrived well late that night and couldn't see we were pitching in a boggy field next to the designated camping area Laughing

I stayed in the 4 star Dorint hotel with a room overlooking the new Nurburgring. Embarassed
I don't like camping. Very Happy

I was thinking of comming over and having a chat but was knackerd by the end of the days.
Never mind. Maybe next time.

How did you get on with the ring and did you buy the compulsory ring sticker for your bike?

Bugger didn't know you could buy those stickers, had seem them about.

Had a really good time on it Very Happy. We only did 3 laps, mainly cos we'd already done about 3000 miles around Europe and 2 of our chains were shagged with tightspots - didn't want to push our luck.

I've done a couple trackdays before, but never really enjoyed them as much as the ring. On the first lap I went round the outside of a Firestorm on the second corner, had a Porshe 911 do me round the outside of a bend whilst I was knee-down on one of the first right-handers, saw a cruiser run straight onto the grass on that really tight left-hander and got my left kneeslider scraping on the top of the carosel (1st time for me). Have to admit I was still too chicken on the third lap to try out the concreted banked section Embarassed

The carousel scares the shit out of me every time.
I flew out of it half way round last time I went.
Three of the blokes I was with got their knees down in the carousel. This puts the bike almost horizontal.

That's impressive Surprised. Think next time I go I'll make a proper few days of it, and make sure my bike's tip-top for when I get there. Definitely worth the mileage.

I cant belive you saw us in the field camping! Saying that, we must have heard about 500 bikes go past in the time we were there! A few popped wheelies passed us and others were locking there rears and all sorts. Did one of the bikes look like this on your way passed....

Mike, funny thing is I saw a bike like the one in Maurices Avatar and thought 'that looks like the one in that blokes avatar'.
I never thought it was the same one. Confused

We were actually stood the wrong side of the armco barrier watching you lot do your 'track day' for a while, you may have noticed us as we were rather close to the track edge for 20 minutes or so.

Mike,
at some spots there were loads of people watching. Brunchen and Breidschied bridge are the most popular. I cant say that I noticed you cos most of the time my concentration was on the track.

You don't need leathers for the ring, people were doing it in textiles and all sorts. Its basically treated as a public road so I bet you could do it in shorts and T- shirt if you were nuts enough...

Despite it being treated as a public road, the surface is nothing at all like one Wink I would say the surface was just as good as that of any trackday I have done in England apart from maybe the carousel which was just plain scary.
