It pains me to say this, but, although I'm a relative newcomer to BCF, I always looked up to both these bikers and considered them as experienced and responsible bikers.

Yet, they've both stupidly crashed their bikes today.

And what are we presented with? One with his hands in the air sporting his busted offside mirror and the other with his thumb up as though it's a victory. And both of them smiling !

Are all us other bikers doing something wrong by riding safely, or will we not be hero's until we've trashed our bikes and survived ?

Don't forget, these accidents were not as a result of the actions of any other road user. They were self-inflicted.

It must be a young man's thing. And I for one ain't playing ball Thumbs Down

And don't start giving me that 'Boring Old Fart' routine. I've heard it all before. This is sheer irresponsibility, like it or not. And if they keep on riding in such a manner, there will come a day when they won't be riding at all.

I know, because I have 2 quadriplegic friends, who ended up that way as a result of bad biking Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

And boy, it opens your eyes.

Bloody hell.

I admit Wave's accident sounded fairly reckless but still - everyone makes mistakes. Have you had an off yet? Wait until you do and then you might realise that even a tiny error of judgement can result in a crash.

R4angers mistake was to grab his front brake mid-turn instead of looking through the bend and riding it. Hardly irresponsible. The wrong decision but hey, you live you learn.

i think its a reaction of thank f*ck and being able to get up and walk away, relitavily unharmed! we have had discussions about why people seem happy after they have just crashed, its usually the wow i'm alive high! very glad that in both there cases they are ok
its a case of living and learning Thumbs Up

That was your first error. Haven't really ridden with Ranger, but as far as Wave2k goes, I wouldn't trust him to open a tin of beans that's already open.

Yeh, Right.

In this case, YES, they lived and maybe they've learned. But my guess is that they'll do it again just as soon as they're back on the roads.

But what happens if you DIE.

It f*****g happens ya' know.

Don't deny it. This is NOT a victory for anyone.

I've fallen of a bike in the past. On Ice and because the cager in front suddenly decided to change direction without warning or indicating.

I need no preaching.

FFS, shit happens its better to have a laugh about a crash were no one was hurt than rant on about how dangerous bikes are and the way we choose to ride our bikes.

That isn't the impression a lot of people have got from their posts on BCF Confused.
I don't think wave has ever tried to give the impression he's a 'responsible' biker. Also I don't believe ranger has been riding for very long.

I'm sure a pschologist would have a techical term for the condition, but I expect it's partly happyness at surviving etc. Wave definitely didn't seem so happy initially, that pic was taken after we had got his bike back into a rideable condition, as well.

Seen old people doing stupid things as well Smile. Nobody's asking you to, ride to the level that makes you feel happy Thumbs Up (of course for some people that maybe does need to be toned down a bit Neutral )

What about the "weren't you young once" routine? Smile

A lot of people get bikes so they can be 'irresponsible', I would much prefer them to be doing it on a bike on country roads than say in a car around town, as I often see young people doing.

My dad was killed on a push bike when I was 11. People have been killed walking down a flight of stairs, or falling from the first step of a ladder.
Life is full of risks, the trick, in my humble opinion, is to know the risks and work out which ones are acceptable to you. Of course, not saying people that crash do this.

why does it matter how other people ride??
i could'nt give a flying fuck how other people choose to ride thier own bikes.
The main thing is that they have got up and walked away.

I think you just contradicted yourself there. Your off was not the fault of any other road user either. It was the fault of you riding to close and not being able to stop in time.

I guess you lived and learned eh.

i think that TOG is trying to put across is that the pics are showing Rodders and psycho celebrating the fact they have crashed, as if its a 'cool' thing to do. i'm sure R&P don't think that crashing and getting hurt is cool, nor does any sain biker
which i am sure they are celebrating the fact that they are alive, but in the morning when they see there bikes they will be a little pissed off!

See that brick wall over there? That's what you're talking to, that is.

Don't you dare suggest that anyone on this forum is anything other than a riding god and that crashes are only caused by road conditions, weather, slack councils, poor driving by cagers, atmospheric conditions, stray wildlife, unscrubbed tyres, sunspots or speed cameras.

You'll get a reputation as a Safety Nazi if you do.

To be fair, it does effect the way the rest of us are treated. Never mind to the people themselves.

However, personally, I do have to ride close to the limit than the law allows. However I have recognised and started doing trackdays and now racing, where it can be done in a much safer environment; though of course the risks are increased as you're riding even faster. Can't get points on your licence though Smile.

Strange to see so many people find it funny.

What if someone smacked into you leicester_city21 on a blind bend when you were riding perfectly well?

Then I think you might just consider 'how other people ride'.

In wave's case at least, he was only putting himself in danger. I was riding infront of him and was not endangered myself at all, nor where any other road users.
Ok, there could have been someone standing on the outside of that road, but very unlikely - someone could jump out in front of you while riding in london, also; probably a lot more likely.

Now whether they would have done the same thing in a different situation is another matter, one we probably won't know the answer to.

Personally l have more of a problem with the way most car drivers drive, like today when a red VW golf driving on the wrong side of the road kept trying to knock/ram me and sigg off our bikes.

You've gone ot, bazza.

I never suggested any such thing.

We're all subjected to these situations. But in both cases these riders weren't.

Ease back, and don't slag me off by stating things I didn't say.
