That's the right book.
Always try to get the latest version as they keep updating it (I think those in the know can tell the issue by the colour of the cover).
Useful to get an insight into 'The System' used by the police. Since it first introduced in the 1920s it seems to have stood the test of time. However, you really need to put it into practice, it's a bit academic otherwise. You can start this on your own to some degree. One quick way to start is to give yourself your own running commentary of the ride, including observations, hazards, etc. Sadly the only way you know if you're doing it right (speed, observations, position, etc.) would be to have someone follow you to check.
If you're serious about advanced training I'd suggest checking out your local IAM motorcycle group or RoSPA group (although motorcycles groups aren't common in RoSPA). The RosPA gold award is the nearest a civilian can get to police standard. The RoSPA braonze is about the same as a IAM pass. With the RoSPA one you have to retake it every few years to keep it valid. Some insurers offer a little discount for RoSPA or IAM pass.
You could also have an individual training session (as was described to me, people pass the RoSPA motorcycle and then advertise themselves as trainers, that's why they're not many groups) or see about attending one of the BikeSafe courses (probably all gone for this summer though).

I have just ordered it...about 10 seconds ago.
I am always looking for ways to improve my riding skills and the reviews suggest it is a pretty handy guide. |

Definitely worth a read.
However, I believe it's often considered best to pass your test first.
For a start, somethings mentioned in there may get marks against you on your test.
Practice the skills you need for your test first, should be plenty to keep you going . |
