Riding the bike to work this morning, all of a sudden something hit my chest... stinging type of pain... thought it was a stone that hit me at speed.... it started to hurt more and more. I got to some lights and took a look, it was just red, no cut or scratch. Got to work, took a closer look, shook my t-shirt, a fackin wasp fell out. Evil or Very Mad

I've never been stung before, it hurts Crying or Very sad

The thing at the front of your jacket (called a ZIP, I believe) would have prevented this occurence. Rolling Eyes Laughing

So you weren't wearing any protective clothing then?

Hmmm thats not too clever.

Went round the block once just with a T-shirt & Lid, but that was just after testing a new speedo cable. That's it, that sh*t me enough, couldn't imagine riding with no gear. When I was much younger on a holiday in greece I came off a Ped wearing shorts.(Never again, get some gear).

People seem quick to criticise on here!

I was in fact wearing full leathers, the zip was undone about half a centimetre from the top as it was so hot... was a tiny gap for a wasp to get through, but it did!!

Wasps and Bees do tend to shock you a bit when you run into one at 80mph+. My Alpinestars T-Dyno jacket is very well protected but it still makes me jump when I'm not expecting it, especially at high speed. It is a pretty dumb idea not to wear any protective gear tho, no matter how hot it is.

Just out of interest, have any of you guys ever hit a bird? I have had a few near misses down the backroads around my village. Must be pretty painful to hit a pigeon or similar!

The closest I've ever come to hitting an animal though has got to be a hare. I was coming home from a friends house late at night, probably doing around 60mph when I noticed two shiny beads of light jump out in front of me. Bearing in mind this was at around 12pm and the roads were wet, I grabbed a handful of brake but quickly eased off it again. The bloody thing actually jumped towards me! Must have been within a foot from my front wheel before darting to my right hand side. No wonder they're so low in the bastard food chain....

You are lucky to have never been stung before Razz

If you rinse it with some vinegar that should ease the stinging, and will prevent it from swelling too much.

I'll try the vinegar, I just thought it'd be a stinging sensation that lasted 5 mins, but it still hurts an hour after...? Must have hit the wasp at around 60mph as it goes.

Last night on my way over to Bella's house, I was just riding out of a village, only going slow so visor still open.

Just as I was shutting the visor, something hit my cheek and bounced off. I didn't think too much about it, and shut the visor.

Once the visor was shut, I wound the throttle open as I was out of the village now. Out of the corner of my eye I notice some movement, glance down... AND THERE'S A FUCKING WASP IN MY LID!!!

I never shat myself so much on a bike before. Never before have I been so scared, not in any of my accidents or near misses.

Opened the visor, and flicked the little fucker out. Then realised I'd been riding for about 1/4 of a mile without looking where I was going. Madness.

I hate wasps. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I clipped what I think was a grouse with my knee once, it didn't feel nice, a sort of crunchy, squishy feeling on my knee. Has anybody noticed that different insects leave different, er, residue on your visor? Some of it is white and gunky looking, some is red in just a small patch, and some leave what appears to be a sort of powdery yellow substance.

If that had been me I'd probably have made an Ian-shaped hole in the nearest wall, cos I'm shit scared of wasps and probably would have took a wobbler, despite never having being stung before Embarassed

Had a bird fly into the gap between my backpack and me, it died. Dead animals freak me out. Not only that, but it broke my laptop that was in the bag.

Well, there was a lot of mess.
I had to go home to scrape the pidgeon intestines off my visor and get the feathers out of the vents and the small gap between the visor and helmet. The blood had also somehow run down the inside of the visor making me feel slightly Sick

Needless to say, I was late for work.

Hi

Not hit a bird on the bike, but have run over a sheep. Charlotte has hit 2 birds in the last couple of weeks.

All the best

Wasps are evil incarnate and should be destroyed whenever possible.
Worst thing I have ever had hit me was a bumble bee about the size of a golf ball at 45mph that hit my visor and smeared from bottom to top. Thought I had been shot, it made such a noise when it hit.

Can remember getting home one night and leaving my lid on the bench in the garage.
Went out next day all in a rush, took the bike out of garage grabbed the lid, slid it on, started to ride down the drive when a massive spider crawled down the inside of my visor.

Talk about shit myself.

It's possible you have a mild allergy to the wasp sting if it is still hurting Confused

I've never had a wasp sting hurt for longer than about half an hour, it begins to itch and irritate but not hurt. Try not to scratch it if you can.
