I parked my CBR onstreet in central London for about a year. I was very protective of 'my' lampost and there was only one night in that whole year that it was not chained to something solid.
Of course, that was the night some scum tried to steal it. But the alarm scared them off, so all was good.
Before the CBR, my CB lived on the same street and that was never chained to anything, only locked to itself. No problems with that.
No-one can say whether it'll be safe or not. If you're gonna do it, I'd recommend a cover and an alarm - you can pick up pretty cheap ones on ebay that aren't all Thatcham approved and stuff, but make a racket when someone touches your bike, and that's what you want.
I'd have had more reservations about parking there if I'd been away without the bike a lot, but the majority of the time the bike was in earshot so it was alright. |

Found out that there might be somewhere that rents lockups, so I might be doing that instead. |

Ok, first of all sorry if im hyjacking, but it seems pointless making a new post for a similar one, im seeing this girl and im having to go up on my push bike as there is the "2hours only" parking, can i get done for parking it on the opposite side of the road on the pavement, say under her window?
Oh and there is nothuing on the other side, just double yellows i think.
Really need to know for sure as i dont need a fine
cheers, Steve. ____________________ Current : 06 Zx10r, 07 Wr450f SM, 74 850 norton commando, 63 bsa b40, 1962 Triton 650, 67 Triumph Tr6r, 1955 Triton 750, 1978 TY250E. |

If you're going to park your bike on the pavement, Toby R and steveh, then check out this link from White Noise last week...
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=56412
You'll always be on 'dodgy ground' if you park on the pavement. Legally, they're for pedestrians only. Mind you, it doesn't stop 'plod' from ignoring every single youngster on a pushbike trying to knock them off their feet.
But, you park a stationary bike there and... Gasp (sharp intake of breath)!

Well theres a parking permit, for 8.am till 6pm.. so after 6 im ok, so its 2 hours only, so am i correct in thinking that if i park there at 4.30 (on the safe side) use up the two hours, then im fine right through till 8.am?
cheers, Steve. ____________________ Current : 06 Zx10r, 07 Wr450f SM, 74 850 norton commando, 63 bsa b40, 1962 Triton 650, 67 Triumph Tr6r, 1955 Triton 750, 1978 TY250E. |

Someone mentioned portable angle grinders, I've used them before and such and they make a HUGE racket so I doubt they would be used outside your house, however, are they strong enough to cut through a wheel clamps? something I've been wondering for a while now. ____________________ 2012 KTM EXC 250

Nomatter how lightweight or portable an angle grinder is, if you fit them with a diamond cutting disk, they'll ALL cut through just about anything. They just take a bit longer, that's all!
But, they ALL have one thing in common... They're bloody noisy things, every one of them, even before you start grinding anything with them
When you think about it, who in their right mind is going to start up an angle grinder in a residential area in the dead of night ?
I think someone would soon notice them and shout something, don't you ?

In the end, if the determined thieves want it, they'll have it, nomatter how well you protect it. This applies to ALL vehicles, not just motorbikes. All you can do is to make sure that you do your very best to keep it to yourself for as long as you can.
However, if your parking circumstances change, make sure you let your insurers know about it. If you originally told them it's kept off the road chained to a ground anchor, and then it gets nicked whilsts parked on the road with just a chain or disk lock, the chances are you'll have a bloody hard struggle to get them to pay out - especially if you change your address and don't let them know.
Just a word of caution to you, Toby R, since your thinking of moving.
Hope this helps. ____________________ Horse Power was safer when the Horses had it! |

TBH you should be ok leaving your bike there if you have a substanial lock onto a metal fence or something, plus buy a cover that you can lock as it means that chav scum are less likely to mess with your bike/controls.
i have had no problems from thiefs and people as of yet (touch wood) my biggest problem that i have had is with the nazi scum calling themselves traffic attendents
but if you live in a unrestricted parking area then you should be fine
just don't block the pavement too much
/sensible mode
try and visualise a double pram trying to get past your bike?
if they can go for it
/sensible mode off

Depends what bike it is, if your realy worried simply remove the handlebars everynite, you ever tried picking up a bike without any bars? then simply put a good lock on the rear wheel and the things alot bloody harder to take away.
